Today is the 81st anniversary of D Day, Operation Overlord and those who landed and who died on the beaches of Normandy.

Lest we forget.

As long as the movie The Longest Day is still shown on tv you will not forget.

I was born the next day.  My dad didn't meet until I was 6 months old.

All those great men on the beaches for freedom. My late husbands dad was on Juno beach.

102 year old veteran of that momentous invasion, Jake Larson, chats with service members at the 2025 D-Day Memorial Ceremony in France.

So much is owed to those men of D-Day, living and dead.

Undoubtedly The Greatest Generation.

I was always struck by how their bravery and service to duty overcame what had to have been a truly terrifying landing.

One detail I remember, from a years ago watch documentary, was that many of those that drowned upon exiting their landing craft once submerged had been pulled under by the sheer weight of their backpacks. Tragic.
