Itching Dog

Is anyone else having problems with their dogs itching constantly? Mine is and he does not have fleas or any bites or sores on his skin. I haven't changed his food. He gets supplements, oils, good quality food. He is five years old and this has been going on for over a month now. Have you ever had this go on with your pooch? I know if I take him to the vet, they will load him with steroids, and I am totally a minimalist when it comes to any of the pet meds. I think it is overkill what they give pets, but that is another post. I have been giving him benadryl and that has helped a little. He is brushed and shampooed, very well taken care of, and REALLY loved! Any ideas?
