"Romeo and Juliet" -  an all-time classic.  he will be remembered for much, but especially this.  gorgeous movie.

FZ truly believed that he had lived in the 13th century (the time of R and J). He said that was the reason he could duplicate that time period so authentically. Of course, living in Florence, IT is in itself so inspiring.

 

He was also madly in love w/Olivia Hussey (and who wasnt?).

 

I actually skipped school w/a GF to see this movie in NYC. I got caught and had to serve detention, but it was worth it. When Romeo came on the screen my GF Maureen and I looked at each other and swooned. We were both 15 yo. Can you blame us?

His Hamlet from 1990 was amazing.  He also did some opera staging/ directing for Metropolitan Opera in NYC. Great talent will be missed.
