Re: It was all a lie

[ Edited ]

I don’t use GoFundMe, but if I did, I would have been conned for sure by this despicable trio.

I wonder if they’ll ever EVER be able to redeem their wasted lives after this. I can forgive, but it sure would be hard for me to forget.

Meant to add, we RARELY respond to huge widely advertised charities, but give all that we can to support locally, where we’re able to see where our dollars go and who they benefit.

We don't give to Red Cross, ever. My DH is involved in disaster relief through our church and he has seen them in action--they show up at the scene in brand-new vehicles, drive around for photo ops, then leave.

I've also quit giving to other large charities, simply because they absolutely inundate us with mail wanting more and more and more! I could paper my walls with the address stickers and notepads these places have sent us.

Most of our charity dollars go to our church, which has outreach operations that do a world of good in our community.

People who scam others the way these folks did are just despicable!

This doesn't stop me from giving. If someone approaches me and I have a few dollars in my wallet, I give. If I'm touched by a go-fund-me story I give. It's between the reciever and their maker if they use the money for drugs or booze, or if they don't really need it.

p.s. Many United Way organization salaries and operating costs are funded completely by a trust. I always give to UW because I know my local uses 100% of donations for the purpose intended.

Speak for yourself.  Many here as well as myself knew this was scam from day 1.  The girls story did not make any sense.  Especially to those of us who are familiar w/I-95 in Pa & NJ.

@vermint  I have heard so many things about the Red Cross, that isn't good, I don't know if I trust them..I give to and through my church. I know it goes to the people in need and those at the top aren't getting a bundle instead of the people in need

@vermint  We have had missionaries from our church tell us the same things about the Red Cross.  I agree about all the freebies that we receive in the mail.  If they can afford all that junk, they can't be that hard up for funding.

We do like you.  We give locally and to the outreach operations that our church supports.  Most of these have little or no overhead.  Feeding and clothing the poor, supporting an orphanage, and spreading the gospel to those that haven't heard it are what gets our $$.

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!

Am I understanding this correctly? Missionaries, who are supposed to model the love of Christ, are passing judgement on a philanthropic organization that donates millions and millions of dollars to help people in crisis situations? In doing this they are discouraging charitable donations to the Red Cross? What passes for christianity these days is appalling.

Go Fund Me should be done away with.    How did families bury family members before this scam came about?   If you feel obligated to help someone make it a family member where you personally know them.  Many go fund me's are for police or fireman.  Seriously... if you think they need financial help you're fooling yourself.    I agree with (and do) give to St. Jude, Shriners, Animal shelters etc. but I don't give to the Red Cross ever..
