Why couldn't you still buy non-Holiday items.

Christmas in July goes on and on. When I know that, I just don't turn the TV on while I am doing housework. If it's not on, I won't be purchasing.

I enjoy Christmas in July. Some will, some won't. But, that holds for all the programming.

I could live without some of the, often repeated products, too, but would never want enthusiasts to be denied their favorites.

I am NOT trying to deny anyone anything. I am just celebrating the fact that I won't be watching any of it and possibly see some other non Christmas item I might be tempted to buy. Quite frankly, I myself choose to not even think about Christmas in the middle of summer. Enjoy your holiday shopping.

I hear ya.  I'm 'in the same boat '.  The past few months (actually more than just a few) I spent way out of my budget, mostly on fashion and beauty.  Today marks day 13 of my spending moratorium.  Christmas in June and July is helpful to keep me on track.

Thank you for correctly interpreting my comments. Your choices and mine for spending are in the same categories. Just as I told myself I was done for a while, they had a great LUG handbag that was marked down 60% off. I love those bags, and they are much lighter weight than my leather bags which hurt my shoulders sometimes. There are other items that I avoid like the plague on the network, but the month of July is a turn off to me because I know it will be nonstop of the same thing in October and November. Meanwhile, my goal for July is NO (0%) purchases. I have tons of Christmas decorations that I have collected for 30 years, but in October, I will begin my search for the perfect gifts when the weather is getting chilly and frost is on the horizon. Good luck on your spending moratorium.

I hate CIJ, especially since it never ends until right before Christmas.  However, I would think that if you looked on their website vs sitting there watching it, you could find plenty of non-Christmas-related bargains.

I mostly dislike it because I often turn on HSN or QVC just as background noise while doing other things.  As far as shopping goes, those items are an easy pass.

I often have the TV on while I am working around the house. That's what gets me in trouble. I never go to the website looking or something to buy. If I happen to see something that captures my interest on TV,  then I mull it over and buy it...because I suddenly want it. CIJ is my friend this month because I just won't have the TV on. And you're right: it starts in July and doesn't end until December.

I watched a small amount of the Christmas In July but did not buy anything. I dont need anything as I keep the decorating to a miniumum and over the years have donated a ton of holiday decorations Smiley Happy But I did like some of the shows and do like to see the pretty things. Plus it was a nice reprieve during this heat wave!

Re: It's that time again that I dread

It is sad for me and I won't be watching.  My mother died right before Christmas and I saw her the last time on  her December birthday.  My son who loved Christmas so much went into a coma two days before and died soon thereafter. So, no, I won't be watching for reasons other than the fact that most (including myself) are sizing down on Christmas decor for more reasons than one.  So, I have more decor than I want and have asked a friend who sells antiques and vintage to help me unload Christmas decor and some of my vintage and antique clocks.  It's that time of my life.

All I can say is your loss.  I like to order all the QVC advance shipment food gifts for family members.  They do sell out, as I have learned, so I am happy to make my orders ASAP.  I find those Lindt chocolates an extreme bargain, although I personaly do not really eat them.

I, too, am well underway with Christmas shopping.

I cannot imagine overspending my budget on beauty items.  Yes, fashion, because one dress can cost hundreds, but the only beauty items I spend hundreds on are perfumes, and I try to limit those purchases, because we certainly never receive any bargains or sales from those manufacturers!

@FancyPhillyshopper

We don't like ordered foods.  I have always cooked my own foods for Christmas and holidays which are much better and fresh.  We will still have the children and grandchildren for Christmas Eve lunch plus the in-laws and any girlfriends and boyfriends.  We exchange names.  We try to give to our favorite charities rather than buying gifts.  We give to the brain tumor foundation, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, the homeless food bank in our area and Operation Blessing. None of us needs anything.  For any surprise boyfriends or girlfriends that show up, I have some Amz gift cards.

I never buy food items. As far as the beauty items, I have ordered Beekman soaps and Tatcha moisturizers mainly. I don't buy perfume at all. I need to sniff them first.  Fashion is my biggest weakness. The best prices from the Q can be found by searching their clearance and closout sections on a regular basis. I have found some great bargains on Sketchers, and just recently I found a Denim and Company sweater for $15.00. It's for colder weather, so it will stay in the drawer till fall. Anyway, I am very happy to have a reprieve in July from coming across any tempting fashion as well as thinking about Christmas. I'll be on my patio. Enjoy your shopping.

Aw, I am so sorry. My mom died Christmas morning, 2000. However, I think the holidays are tough no matter when the loss. They remind us of happy memories of family and the void that is left in their absence. Your pain is magnified by the loss of a child as well. Take care.
