I don't 'do' sun at all. Don't want them cutting on my face. LOL When I was younger I laid on my stomach on the beach to much and now I have those ugly seborrheic keratoses on my back. Not cancer, just ugly spots that insurance won't pay for to have froze off.
Now, that I got some sense I don't go any place without my pricey sunscreen on my face. I look a lot better then some of these Tx. women who have skin like a old saddle and they're lot younger.
Moral of the story is stay out of sun, don't smoke that makes you look like old boots, also.

Oh, how can forget this...a weekend spent at a swimsuit-optional hotspring nestled amongst the pines way up high in the rocky mountains where the air is thin and the sun shines so bright.

When my father got his two weeks' vacation in the summer, we would immediately take the subway for the 20-minute ride to Coney Island beach. During one of those heat waves, we were on the beach sheltered by two rented beach umbrellas and lots of Coppertone, and I got a really bad sunburn on my back while I sunbathed to let my swimsuit dry. I remember coming home, taking a cool shower in much pain, and my mother applying cold Noxzema to my back. I had to sleep on my stomach for two nights the pain was so bad. I was 11 at the time, and I never did that again. Even though I visit Cape May every August, I spend very little time sunning on that beautiful beach.
You are the only other person I've seen reference Noxzema for sunburn. When I've had the bad, bad, should-have-seen-a-doctor burns, Noxzema saved me. Took the pain right out.

Spring of 1980 right before I graduated high school. Moved into my first apt. before I finished school so I was enjoying the whole single apt. life by the pool. I got burned so bad and I could not wear make-up for a couple of weeks. The front of my legs did not just peal they scabbed over they were so bad. Once I recovered I was back out there but with more sense.

@DiAnne wrote:I have had too many to count! I was born in Pasadena but spent most of my youth on the sands at Newport Beach. I used to spend all day there. I often went to school smelling like a salad because my mother would put rags soaked in vinegar on me to take out the sting (I don't think that worked). My last really bad sunburn was in Las Vegas. I fell asleep on my stomach by the pool.
My "ankles in the ER" debacle took place at Bolsa Chica.

I am fair. Although in1961 while in high school I had no idea. I stayed too long at the beach and ended up with a sunburn that required an overnight stay at the hospital. So painful that I never allowed myself to "sun" again. Ever since I have worn sunscreen every day of my life regardless of the season and have worn hats at the beach. Needless to say, I don't have too many sun spots nor wrinkles in my old age.

these stories are killling me....i can smell the noxema now! I never experienced a bad burn....some blisters. I spent my whole life in the sun...no sunscreen until about 20 years ago. I was a premie and the doc told my mom to stick me outside...and that was that. I'd get so dark ....like deep skin color dark....crazy.... I stay out of the sun now....I see 50....and burn easily.

About 10 years ago I was on a Disney Cruise and when we were in the Bahamas I went for a 45 min snorkle with my daughter. I slathered on SPF 75, but that didn't work very well....I looked like a lobster.
I don't usually burn...but that tropical sun is brutal...

Summer after graduating high school. Thought my pale skin would be fine on a float in the ocean on a very cloudy day. Boy did I learn a hurtful lesson that day. Looked like I could pass for Red Lobster's mascot. I stay out of the sun now! Often wondered if I'm related to Casper!

This is beautiful! How romantic - as long as you're not worried about the sun!
