8 years old. Sun poison on my back. It finally burst and then I went back out and got sun poisoning all over again- had to be hospitalized and missed the whole summer.
Nothing happened to the adults/my parents, btw. Today, they would have been in HUGE trouble.

I was just thinking about the same subject. In my 20's at the beach and the tops of my feet got burned. I put aloe on them, but I still had a hard time sleeping with the sheet on. I've never down that again. I use a lot of sunscreen now and I don't worship the sun anymore.

I was a premie and the doc told my mom to stick me outside...and that was that. I'd get so dark ....like deep skin color dark....crazy.... I stay out of the sun now....I see 50....and burn easily.
Do not forget the smell of the baby oil with iodine along with the Noxzema.

Not necessarily. My g-niece's little boy spent an entire day with his *grandparents* at a public pool. He was sent WITH a tube of sunblock - which they never applied. The poor kid came home in agony. And it's the SECOND TIME they've done the same thing! Short of turning in your in-laws for child abuse (which would have to show deliberate neglect/intent), the only thing she can do is refuse to let him go again. And after this, I'm sure HE will be asking for the sunblock. Poor kid. Clueless people!

Summer of 72, college years, I spent 2 weeks in Miami Beach, with no sunscreen lying on the beach. After just a few days I developed huge blisters all over my shoulders and chest, also blisters on my lips, sun poisoning. Not pretty.

My only really bad sunburn came the swimsuit I was wearing. It was a crocheted suit, open all around, except for the properly placed pineapples. The doctor had a good laugh,as he chastised for burns all over my bum. Had that pattern on bum and sides for several years.. I always spent time in the sun my whole life. A neighbor used to say I would tan 1 shade lighter than an Oreo cookie. Olive complected. Sunny,SoCal tan. Now in Az, I panic. One nose surgery and one on my back.

I inherited my father's pale Irish skin. As children we swam everyday. My mother used to say you need to get a good (?) sunburn before you'll tan. I had MANY terrible sunburns which lead to sun poisoning. It's probably the reason I've had 20+ basal and squamous cell carcinomas removed.
My husband is very Italian and never burned until we honeymooned in San Juan. He barely moved (and whined incessantly) for half our trip.

I often went to school smelling like a salad because my mother would put rags soaked in vinegar on me to take out the sting (I don't think that worked). My last really bad sunburn was in Las Vegas. I fell asleep on my stomach by the pool.
My "ankles in the ER" debacle took place at Bolsa Chica.
Been to Bolsa Chica often! My Irish heritage also contributed to my problems. I was over 35 before I realized that I burn, blister and peel and end up the same color as I started. I was a slow learner!

It was February, I was a senior in college, high in the mountains.
It got unusually hot for several days and we all got behind the dorms in the yard which had a few trees, and were out in the sun all afternoon.
Apparently, I had a sun stroke! I couldn't stand up with out passing out for three days! I ate crackers and drank water and stayed on the bed with my feet on the wall to keep from passing out again.
When I did get to my design class, we were designing clothes and I had to spray down with Solarcane so they could fit fabric to me before I had to be sprayed again!
You were very lucky, yes, you had heat stroke and it's a very dangerous thing.... not only do you dehydrate, you lose the electrolytes, potassium and minerals that keep your heart and organs functioning.... you should have gone to the hospital in order to be re-hydrated with the proper ingredients. I'm so glad everything worked out ok for you. I'm extremely sensitive to the sun and heat as well.....
