Have you seen some of the people collecting disability? The system is a train wreck. Those who need it can't get it and those who don't need it somehow manage to get it and love abusing it. Fraud all over the place.

""Seen""?! Not all disabilities are visible. I'd think an RN would know that.

There's also a young man, that worked for FedExp in Kennesaw, GA... a disgruntled employee came in shooting... the young man was a security guard and shot, he's had 34 surgeries and was denied SS disability- his poor wife was begging for help... this young man will never be able to work again.. I have an ex friend that was given full SS disability because she can't lift- don't get me started on that but she bragged about it... It's the Judges and Randy Travis, local investigative reporter on MyfoxAtlanta, did a story on Brian Doyle.... first he had leukemia and now Parkinson's yet he was denied.... He can't even hold his right arm still it shakes so badly... Our SS disability needs to be redone, even poor Vets can't get help..

I am already receiving SS, so I could not get SSDI. However my daughter needs it and knows she will not get it because her disease (Lyme) is not recognized in the medical community or any government facility.

I once had a friend who told me I should get a handicapped card for my car as I surely would qualify. I never have applied for one. She said to get one that hangs from a card because then family members can use it. She turned me off on it when she said she uses her daughter's card when she goes shopping at the malls so she can get close to the stores. And this woman could lift weights and run Olympic races, she is so healthy. Nothing wrong with her head either, except for her pronounced narcissism.

Ford, that just makes me so angry what your friend said about the hang up placard! I could apply for one too but I refuse.. I've seen so many people prance into the store, you know they aren't handicapped, young people mostly..

Well this was just one more straw on the way out of our "lifetime friendship." I have no respect for well off people (in more ways than one) who still bilk the system for whatever they can get. She's done it all and she has always gotten away with it. There was one final fallout over bigotry and lies, and it ended for good. And she was the one who ended it because I finally had my say about something she said and then I caught her in the lie and she knew it. She couldn't handle that I exposed her and told me basically to shove off.

I hate it when able bodied people use handicap cards to park. I have a friend who used to do that although she never did it with me because she asked if I minded her using her mother in laws card to park and I said yes. My 90 year old mom has one but she rarely uses it because she thinks someone else might need it more.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

Ford, I also have an ex friend because of things.. I won't go into but the very first time she was approved.. she bragged about certain things and I've kept the email she sent stating she could do anything she wanted but except what her Doctor said... that just hit me wrong... I told her, "You are going to heal but it was like falling on deaf ears". When her dad passed away, they kept driving his car and renewing his handicap plate.. No one in Tennessee questioned it... I was livid knowing they were all driving it and taking a space from someone that really needed it.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr My ex friend said, "I thought you'd be happy for me." I told her... Happy that you're supposed to be disabled, don't make me tell you how I really feel cause you'll get piffed." Never heard from her again.. it was the bragging!!!

Yes! There is no shame! She always used to tell me that if I didn't stop helping my kids and my family, I would never be rich. She's a millionaire from a divorce settlement from a man she married just because he owned a company and if she stayed married to him long enough (which she did) she would divorce him and get big bucks. Which is exactly what happened and that's the only reason she is so rich. She'd be a bag lady without that, as she otherwise had no skills. He died six months later coincidentally right around the same time as her then paramour, and it wasn't her ex whom she mourned. She was never loyal to anyone, and I began to realize after over 60 years that she was not loyal to me either.

In fact, she and my beloved sister did not get along . . . and it grieves me that my sister is gone, and she's still here. Is that horrible of me?

Good for you adelle! I wonder how these people can live with themselves.

Is it easier to get accepted if one has a psychological problem verses a medical issue?
