It will hit the Keys as a 5, and possible go down to a 4 as hits state of Florida, more to the Western side now, like Tampa, Naples, Fort Meyers and going up through Georgia and weaking as it reaches  Tennessee. This is the latest I just watched on news.

Wasn't Katrina a category 3?  Maybe you can't compare them because the big problem with Katrina was that the dam broke, wasn't it?  That brought in the immense flooding.  I can't imagine what these people are going through.  The most disturbing are those who are on the news buying beer and such and planning a party when they should be evacuating.  I haven't seen anyone on the news yet doing this for this storm.

Re: It's back up to CAT 5 now!

What makes Irma different from previous storms is the amount of water it contains. This happened, according to meteorologists, because the ocean water is unusually warm this season and that is what feeds hurricanes and makes them stronger. Irma is not just about the wind it has but also about the water it is carrying with the wind to push it over land. Dire.
