This is a sad world we live in today. When I think of the many travels to Europe as I did in the past. Now I might rethink some country's . Here in the U.S.  It's just as bad. What happened here? Years ago we never had all the crime, shootings and abduction of children. We could leave our children walk to school, play outside. Our schools were always safe. No more. What's the answer? What can we do? Even the police are limited in what they can do  and they risk their lives every day. They say live your life not in fear but there are times I do wonder about what is safe. Tragedy in Orlando is heartbreaking for the victims and their loved ones and the ones who are recovering. Yes this is a different world and at times it's hard to cope with all that has changed. I guess you always have to be looking over your shoulder. Sad.

Oh, stop, Noel.  You know as well as everyone else that it was taken down because it was controversial and the mods have been told to take down anything controversial.  Blame QVC, not people you despise here.

The slant is obvious here at times.

Melania ---

The problem isn't with inanimate objects -- it's with people. Mentally ill people need to be protected from themselves and others like they used to be. We need to stop letting illegal immigrants in without knowing what their purpose is here. We need to pay more attention to Muslims and mosques in this country to make sure they are peaceful and not planning attacks on us. We need to do away with "gun-free" zones which only attract people like James Holmes and Dylan Roof who know they can inflict mass casualties. We need to prosecute anyone who allows their children to have access to loaded guns unless they have been trained to use them in hunting. That star football player or head cheerleader who relentlessly bullies "weird" kids need to be banned from all extra-curricular activities. We need stricter sentences for gang members and thugs in big cities and small towns alike.

But the most important thing that needs to be done is pretty much impossible ---- eliminate the drugs, alcohol and abuse from homes across the country.

Yes. The off duty police officer was in uniform and had a gun. But he was no match for the superior firepower of the perp.

So no, a trained officer with a gun can't always stop a determined bad guy with no regard for his own life or for others.

Plus, the situation was similar to the CO theater. It was dark and noisy. A guy with a gun on CO didn't fire because he couldn't see his target well in the dark, didn't want to hit victims and didn't want to be shot by police himself.

This was a dark, VERY noisy club. Chances of taking out rhe shooter would be slim.

So what's a better solution?

IMO only this is the crux of the gun issue. No one EVER needs an assault weapon. Only law inforcemet and military. Period.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

ITA.  Often the bad guys out-gun the police.  We are putting our LE in danger.
