I had a 5PM appointment with my trainer...so I couldn't miss the first Monday of the New Year. How bad could it be?

My club is about 2 blocks from Lake Erie. The winds were so bad I fell down and started rolling down the street...my pride wasn't hurt because naturally there was NO ONE on the street to see me...no one foolish enough to be out! All the businesses had closed early.

There were about five people at the club...when there are usually a couple hundred on a Monday night.

Instead of getting better, by the time I was ready to venture home, it was a full on blizzard - no visibility. I live two miles from the club...but the visibility was so bad, I missed my driveway and had to circle around the block!

You KNOW its bad when the dog won't budge outside the door! I had to carry him outside for potty break time.

Stay warm and safe everyone!

Re: It's a Blizzard Out There!

I just had my two dogs for a walk - current temp is -12. But weather for tomorrow shows temps between 2 and 8 (ABOVE ZERO) so I guess that is better. Think we have about a foot of snow on the ground now. Our house is old (100 yrs plus) although we completed renovations this past year. I was still concerned about frozen pipes with these temps and high winds but luckily, all is fine.

A week ago Sunday it was very slippery and I fell down right on my tailbone and for some reason, I really feel it today, almost more that when it first happened. Anyway, it can be very dangerous out there so I hope everyone stays safe and warm.

I have an old home too...keep your faucets open with a very slight amount of water flowing.

Our pipes froze two years ago and it took hours to thaw them out.

Re: It's a Blizzard Out There!

Yes, I have been keeping the faucets going with a slight trickle and so far, all is well. A few years back, they demolished an older home next door to me to build a condo building. They had done some damage to my building during demolition which you really could not see because of course, they put up a fence between the buildings. The wind went whipping through my basement and not only did the pipes freeze, they burst. And of course, the developer of the new construction next door denied it was their doing and thousands of dollars later, there I was.

In the end, people in the condos next door are suing the developer because they have problems with leaking roofs and flooded basements when there is a heavy rain.

I just got off the phone with my friend in South Buffalo. She said the skyway is closed.

Yes...and I was at the BAC downtown - one block from the foot of the Skyway....TOTAL whiteout and I rolled down Delaware Ave.!

Fuhrmann is closed too....WBEN said that South Park was like a parking lot.

Some people were comparing it to the Blizzard of '77.

My mom's last Christmas (2001) We were all celebrating at her house in South Buffalo. It started snowing, so my son and I stayed over. South Buffalo ended up getting seven FEET of snow - it was Ground Zero for the storm.

My son and I went to the local store (after 2 days inside). The snow was OVER our HEADS.

We had to do the breast stroke to reach the middle of the street.

There wasn't much left at Wilson Farms...we ended up buying ice cream!

That storm in 2001 gave us 7 feet of snow too...I'm south of you.
