@CrazyKittyLvr2  Midnight target practice? What's with that? Do they use spotlights? Crazy!

Re: It's Quiet As A Tomb Here, Very Strange!

@Hoovermom   I have been in this house for 24 yrs.  It was ok until the older couple next door died and their son just up and moved in within days and declared it his house.  A fight among siblings went on for over a decade.

The twp. supervisors and others are afraid of him.  He is nasty, subscribes (his brother told my DH)  to mercenary magazines, he is one of those "the government is gonna get him" types, and he has a butt ton of guns. Let's say he is just missing the tin foil hat.

I hate the noise but I don't bother him and he doesn't bother me.  I have more sense than to poke a bear.

Re: It's Quiet As A Tomb Here, Very Strange!

Silence is golden!  I recently experienced this.  Saturday, dead silence.  It was so peaceful and relaxing.  Most of the spring/summer my loud a** neighbors would sit out on their balcony dominating the airwaves with their extraordinarily loud banter, coughing, belching.  The invited family and friends over frequently to shout back and forth from their balcony which is right next to mine.  Even with windows shut and the tv and a/c on, I could still hear them from every room.  I found out they moved.  I am so elated.  I truly enjoy the peace now and can resume relaxing and reading on my balcony.

@PA Mom-mom  I don't see spotlights.  The back deck of his house faces a wooded area on a steep hill.  No other houses around so they put up targets and shoot.

The 1st time he started shooting a midnight I something to DH about the fact you can't see anything and all he said was "night googles."  It must be or he justs shoots for the sake of it to prove how big his gun is.  It usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes.  I just steer clear of windows.

Re: It's Quiet As A Tomb Here, Very Strange!

Like others, I like the quiet.  Quiet = peaceful for me.  Smiley Happy

I live in a neighborhood, so I'm not out in a less populated area.  But my little street is a 'U' shaped street.  My property is in one of the 'elbows' of the 'U' so I have even a little more privacy.

It's like an inverted corner, so the front of my property is narrow and it veers way out as you go toward the back.   Since it's a 'U' shaped street, with no other outlet, about the only cars you see coming through are people who live on the street.

About the only thing I ever hear is the birds.

I like peaceful very, very much.  Smiley Happy

@chickenbutt   Isn't quiet great.  I've gotten so used to the racket around here that when it's quiet It is almost shocking.

It is now quarter to 5 and I finally heard 1 car go by and one cow moo.

Re: It's Quiet As A Tomb Here, Very Strange!

@CrazyKittyLvr2  Oh, I didn't even think about those night vision goggles. You know, we live in a cul-de-sac in a development in suburban Montco, and I think we are much more careful about our neighbors comfort than the folks are at my daughter's in rural western MD. We even think twice before we mow the lawn. Is anyone having company? Try not to mow on Sunday or Saturday evening (grilling time). You know?

@PA Mom-mom  Even though we don't have a lot of people nearby DH was always careful not to mow early.

There are only 3 houses in the 1/2 mile before our house, ding dong neighbor is right next door.

The closet neighbor past our house is more than 1/4 miles away and that is an 80 yr. old woman.  I haven't seen her in years. She is never out and about even though she is able to. After her it's another 1/2 mile to the next house.

I think they saw Petunia when she was out running around the house and realized they had no right to disturb the equilibrium of such a magnificent creature. They're probably sitting inside, marinating in pools of remorse, just thinking about how inconsiderate they've been. Cat Wink

Re: It's Quiet As A Tomb Here, Very Strange!

We're on the "court", which is the only side street in our one lane in, up, and around road with a large grass median in the middle.

They built this street to create three large lots.  We are built into the top of a hill on the former golf course which was ruined when we had a 100 yr flood.  Someone tried to build a condo high rise in what is a flood plane and he got blocked.

When our boys were growing, never a dull moment during summers when I was off.

Now we're quiet.  Ahhhhhhh..........,.,.
