@on the bay Great points. I just don't understand the resistance to new technology, just because we survived without it doesn't mean we can't enjoy it now.

Bet people said the same thing about cars and many other things "back in the days". Just because it may be something you do not need or understand, does not make it important to someone else.

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

@mspatmac I think the "resistance" to technology, as least for me, is that it can be abused. When I see people walking down the streets with their eyes focused on their hand, I feel like asking what they're looking at. Too many people are addicted to their computers/smart phones, social media, etc. etc. Not a good thing, again IMO.

It's common to look back and compare then to now. I never want to go back to the days when I had to sit in a library and pore over reference books to find one simple piece of information. I love the convenience of having my cell phone, laptop, iPad, etc. at my fingertips. I've broadened by knowledge considerably because I can investigate so many different subjects while I sit right here in my den. I rely heavily on my cell phone to keep in touch with my college students and colleagues. Texting is convenient for me. I like being able to send a message to a group of friends or family members. I've even gotten used to zoom meetings - LOL. I don't know if tech has made life better, but it certainly has made it more efficient.

@kaydee50 I agree that it is abused by many but that's no reason for us not to enjoy and use it responsibly.

I was always so happy when someone slipped me a note in school. That was how we communicated. Not good though when the teacher saw it and took the note.

The schools I went to had a wall full of pay phones outside of the principle's office. If you had no change, you were allowed to use the "secretary's" or the "principle's" desk phones as long as you were calling home.
