In school these days kids are not taught how to spell, how to construct a sentence (remember diagramming?), how to write a business letter, punctuation, grammar, etc. I kind of blame the school system plus texting and social media.

If a poster uses abbreviations and can't construct a simple sentence, I assume they're young and don't know any better. Are we even going to be able to understand future generations?

@tototwo, unfortunately the poster that I was referring to in my earlier post is over 60.

I can't get much out of the beauty boards at all now because I have no idea what companies they are talking about.  It isn't a hobby or passion of mine, but I'd like to check in sometimes.  I usually wind up more confused.

I couldn't agree more.  I'm not against abbreviations at all.  We've been doing it for years.  But it's getting extreme now.  Although I'm at the age that I would be considered an "old fogey" so my opinion on many things doesn't matter anymore.

Another one that irks me is "the fam" (family).  I've even begun hearing it used in commercials and among the younger tv anchors.

@geezerette The absolute worst was hearing Whitney from Big Fat Fabulous Life wanting to meet up with her boyfriend "the Frenchman" and she had to check her sched because she was taking a vacay with the fam.
