Re: It Seems Trendy to Abbreviate Now

I rarely follow trends or what others think is cool or the thing to do. Abbreviating is not for me, I love to write and most of my friends do too.  We know how to spell, vocabulary, how to write a business letter, thank you letter any type of letter.  We learned in grammar school.  If people want to take short cuts expressing themselves, that is their business.  But I am not one of them, happy to say.

Re: It Seems Trendy to Abbreviate Now

The one that gets to me the most, because it is so ridiculous, is when someone texts "k" instead of "ok.  Hmmmmm......because it was WAY too much effort to add just one more letter???

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

The one that irritates me is saying Co. instead of company.

The hosts will say Denim and Co. or Frye and Co.  It looks ok in print, but sounds off to my ears when said.

The first time I heard this was in Macy's years ago and one of the associates said Style and Co.

Re: It Seems Trendy to Abbreviate Now

@spiderw     I'm with you. I find all the abbreviations to be

annoying. I remember hearing "vacay" for vacation

even back in the 80's. I remember thinking that it

was lazy and uncool, even then.

                       I don't know just when a camisole became a

"cami" or when a hood sweatshirt became a

"hoodie", but it was annoying to me.

More and more, people have been using

abbreviations and initials in recent years.

It is probably because of texting.

It seems that many people never learned to

use the correct forms of words like to, too, two

or their, there or wear, where. Many never learned

to spell or use punctuation or form a sentence.

My two sons have names that have common

nicknames. When they were growing up, I

always addressed them by their full first names.

I never liked nicknames. Their friends address

                       them by the nicknames.

My girls all have names that do not have a

                       shorter version or nickname.

Re: It Seems Trendy to Abbreviate Now

I don't like many abbreviations. Never have.  I feel like an idiot using them.  Maybe if I were more confident.....

Vacay

convo

inspo

Hoco (instead of homecoming)

@gidgetgh

I've never heard of hoco.  If someone said that to me, I would never have pulled out homecoming😁.

We have Royal Farms convenience stores in our area.  People say RoFo.  That doesn't even make sense to me.  I believe the store's rewards program is called RoFo rewards.  It should be RoFa if they are truly abreviating.

@spiderw It's their business, but if they want to be heard, it will only be a select group. Which may be their intent. You are fortunate! Kids today are getting short changed sometimes on basics they may need.
