I must be very blessed with my docs...I have a caring group of ra specialists whose goal is to provide a full and comfortable life for their patients . I do have pain pills on hand for " those" times, which do not happen too often. I have also been to mayo and the university of mn rheumatologists and have not had any negative experiences. Ringer, I have read this entire thread and feel your pain and frustration. I hope you get some responses today. I would not be as functional as I am without my docs.
Sydsgma, the first RA doc I went to told me I had seven years to live. That was ten years ago. The second one I went to at Jefferson in Philly told me I'd never have a day free of pain for the rest of my life. Then there were a half a dozen more, none of whom had the least bit of interest in me . . . perhaps because of my age. All they want to do is put you on a biologic and then forget about it. If the first one doesn't work, they'll prescribe another one . . . and so on. I only had one who actually physically examined me and bothered to take x-rays.
I have been told by other doctors that there's little respect for RA docs in the medical community. I don't know if that's true or not.
You are certainly lucky, but of course you have taken a different course than I have re the biologics. I guess I just haven't fought as hard as you have or been as brave.

Like any other group, you can't rightfully judge all by personal experience.
My RA doctor is wonderful. He's a kind and gentle man, very caring. In fact, when I was last in the hospital, he came to see me and saw me standing, trying to hold the back of my gown together. He was so nice about it and asked if he could tie it better for me, and so he did.
Then he said other patients of his liked to wear a second gown over the first, like a coat, would I like that. Of course I said yes, so he went and got another gown and helped me get into it.
I adore him so much, I go out of my way for office visits with him. He's also quite brilliant and highly regarded by the nurses. If you want to know who's a really good doctor, my experience has been to ask the nurses who have experience with them.

BTW, I was told about biologics, offered biologics if I wanted them (by the doctor I adore).
I declined, said no. He has never said another word about them.

Hi Noel. Nice to 'see" you here today. Yes, ask the nurses and I have also asked my doctors who they go to, or would go to, for a certain procedure. Your doctor sounds wonderful and compassionate which is important to me.

Hi MM! It's always good to see you and I hope you're feeling well
I agree with you, I ask my internist all the time who she likes best in certain departments and she gives good recommendations.

I've had RA for ten years and have had at least eight RA docs. I don't even go to an RA doc anymore.
This simply is not true. My RA doctors have been caring. Throughout his life my father had numerous RA doctors and his did everything in their power to improve the quality of his life.
Your experiences are not a reflection on all RA.

This is true, but then neither are yours.

I did not say mine were.
You were the one that made the blanket statement about:
RA docs hate their specialty.
They are the absolute worst as far as "caring." They do not care.
