Is this common practice at estate sales?

To have a portrait of the deceased with a sign "Mary's Estate Sale"?

There was just a sale held for the estate of a relative and about half the family was really skivved about the picture and signage.

Maybe it's done to satisfy a requirement of managing the estate?
