Re: Is there a new language I have missed?

You gotta keep up with the youngsters!!! LOL. They abbreviate and shorten everything. Comes from texting I think. I did get polyester span. But I have to look up abbreviations people use here all of the time.

Regarding the word fabrication, it can be used synonymously with manufacture and production.

If someone is using the word fabrication while really meaning "fabric," then the word use is incorrect.

The item is described as the top "95% polyester 5% spandex."

So, QVC is not describing things as "polyesterspan."

I guess I am not sure that this is an "official" term, or one created for whatever.

I have never heard "colorway!"  I still don't get that.

I always thought it was "color wave" meaning a range of hues within a color, until I looked it up one day.   It is "colorway"... a color or arrangement of colors.

Then there's "preeeee-sentation."  Another word only heard on shopping channels.

Beyond that, I'm still trying to wrap my head around some hosts using the pronoun "she" to refer to a handbag.

Most Romance languages assess male or female  to their nouns, English does not..Ironicallly, in French,  handbag is actully mascuine "le sac"

And fabriction is most definitely a word- I deal with fabrictors all day long.. but it has nothing to do with "fabric"

I get so sick of comf, cazh (casual) anf the exceedingly overused zhzhz (however.)  One host does not know the word comfort.  She either says comf or comfortability.  They also use the phrase "are wanting" instead of "want."  I thought it was just Jill, but I've noticed they're all doing it now.  It reminds me of being back in school and having to write a 5-page paper so you would write really big, or double space!

I think they are trained how to use as many words as possible to stretch out presentations.  This is one of the reasons they say "this is going to be your blue, this is going to be your red....." , instead of "this is the blue, this is the red...."

Re: Is there a new language I have missed?

I agree with all of the posters. I'm from the old school. QVC needs to sit down with their hosts and tell them to start using correct words in their presentations. Or better yet get them a tutor to teach them English. I get tired of trying to understand their words. I think they are to lazy to pronounce correctly . It's not professional. When you are a salesperson and trying to sell me something and start using crazy words I will walk away or turn to another shopping Channel where they do not have all the craziness with words, shouting and interrupting .
