As I said before, I love thunderstorms, especially at night.
It's like watching nature's fireworks!

I love both thunder and lightening! In fact, I have a CD recording of thunderstorms. I'm especially fond of the ones where there is all that crackling noise. I hate it when I sleep through a good storm at night. Somehow, I find storms soothing. I'm all nice and cozy in the house while the weather is wild outside. IDK...call me weird. I can't be the only one who loves storms!

Thunder can make me jump especially if it sounds like it is right outside of the building I am in. Lightning is especially scarey. Lightning struck our house a few years ago which resulted in a fire. The house was considered a total loss by the insurance company. I stay away from windows and don't go out when it is thundering or lightning.

It really depends on where I am and what's going on.
There are times that I can't see the lightning, but the thunder makes my windows rattle and car alarms go off. In those cases, the thunder is much scarier.
Other times the lightning is much more prevalent and I can see it flashing very close to where I am. If that's the case, the lightning bothers me more. If I'm outside, lighting is definitely the larger concern.
A friend of mine was gaming on his computer when lightning struck his house. It knocked him out of his chair and left a hole in the roof and ceiling. He was very lucky and suffered to long-term side effects, which can be bizarre and terrible. His computer was fried and he needed to replace that and repair the roof and wiring of his home. If there's a lightning storm, I take precautions by unplugging my most important electronics, not using a landline phone, and not using the shower.

One of my son's school friends had the roof blown off their home as well. No one was hurt (thank goodness), but it took them a while to get back into their home. No hole, it was blown clear off the home. I think that was during a time we had a weird storm and it was more than just your typical summer thunderstorm.

It's neither for me. Sadly, strong winds will have me walking the floor all night.

It's so hard for me to stay away from the windows in my home because there are so many of them. Sometimes, I head to the basement when all I can see is ligtning. I don't go out either and pray that I never get caught in a storm when its lightning.

@Bird mamaThe howling and rattling of windows with strong winds can be un-nerving for me too.

A friend of mine lived in Chicago and one lightening storm they had went right through the front screen and hit the wall across the living room!! They were so superstitious that they were lucky enough to all survive that fluke that they never repaired the burned section of their wall! I was certainly impressed that lightening could even do that (I was young) and recommended that they put a frame around it.... !!
My grandmother had it come through the kitchen window and bounce off the enameled kitchen table!

Thank goodness you were not injured. Yes it can be a nightmare when it damages property. Where I live we go without power sometimes for days because ligtning has hit the electrical boxes mounted atop wood poles where the wiring is.
