Is it still necessary to match your handbag and shoes?

I have ALWAYS matched my handbags to my shoes..i.e...black shoes, black handbag. BUT...I have a new Dooney I would LOVE to wear toniht to a party but I am wearing black shoes and the bag is a dark beige color...(the Dillen Hobo). Just can't decide if it's a "fashion no-no" to not have your shoes and handbag match? Opinions, anyone?
