I don't think most jeweler's would risk their reputation by stealing a 1 carat diamond from a customer. Hope you can resolve this to your satisfaction.

Did your description from your jeweler have the exact weight of the stone and the size? This would greatly help you in this dispute.

Costco has $40,000 rings? I can't imagine spending that. I would rather buy a nice car.

A while back my husband got me a beautiful pair of diamond earrings from BJ's but they were way too heavy for my earlobes so we took them back. Before they could be returned they used some kind of diamond tester to make sure we hadn't changed the stones- it was like a carat and half.

My area has no local jewelers who do on site work; everything is sent out of the store, which I don't like.

Is your diamond worth $300,000? $500,000? If it is a priceless 6 figure stone, he did not switch it out. Even a $75,000 stone would not be worth losing his license and livelihood over. Maybe he cleaned the stone and that's why it looks different. You were indeed suggesting that he switched the stone, why else would you have gone back to him with your complaint? I know that some stones do indeed have serial numbers but a nefarious jeweler would know that and would never make switch. There's no way for you prove it one way or the other but you might try taking it to another jeweler with all your appraisals and paper work and tell him your suspicions and ask if there is some way that your suspicions can be confirmed....or not.

If possible, u never leave a diamond with a jeweler. Always let them do the work at the counter - and stand there and watch. Yes - they do it all the time. You need to take it to another jeweler to get it appraised. Hope u have pics of it. I've seen these shows on Judge Judy. Good Luck

I will not leave a ring with a jeweler; I will not allow a ring to leave my sight in any way.
I have my reasons.
I agree......i went to get a battery for my watch the other day at a reputable jeweler who i bought a diamond ring from a couple years back...i have to admit i am always suspicious of diamonds being replaced as i have heard of it happening...... while waiting for the jeweler to finish with my watch...the saleswoman and i talked about the ring i had purchased there and she said...."oh...let me take it in the back and clean it for you"................i said no....i knew i could clean it myself...........but i don't let anyone take the ring in the back room....

Have the stone removed, then have the ring sized. It should not be a problem.

So sorry, my mom swore a mall jewelry store swtiched out her diamond too. That was many years ago but she kept reminding me that it happens.
Unfortunately very few people have a map of their stones or if you possibly have an appraisal on the stone, that's a good starting spot.
