10 yrs ago, I was still using the princess style w/ an answering machine! I finally got a GoPhone where texting was numbers had associated letters...man, that was a pain to text.
When I got my iPhone, the Technology Angels shined the light on me! I 'got' why this is so much fun! It's amazing to think....you have a mini-computer in your hand...crazy! Upgraded to a 6+, dumped my landline...never been happier.

Believe me I've been there and you have to look at every penny of your budget. But if you shop around you can get some very cheap cell phone plans. Just because someone is low income it doesn't mean that they are automatically irresponsible if they have a cell phone. Why wouldn't a cell phone be a priority?
I know you don't like them, but they have saved many lives.
And they kept some of us in contact with our loved ones at the hub of 9/11.
Well, yes. There are very inexpensive plans, and as I said, it's a lifeline for some people.

We talk in person and on the phone all the time as well but we text frequently. It's the equivalent of what used to be online chat or emailing. As opposed to talking to someone on the phone you can have a conversation while doing something else and you don't have to immediately respond like you would talking to someone verbally, for example if I'm reading or watching TV.Everyone in our family does text. Why not just call, you're using the same pnone?

Good point. Thanks. I never thought of it that way. I very infrequently call my GS when he is at work, but he doesn't call me until he is on a break or off work. My insight is much better now. LOL

Hi mm!
I asked my daughter about that and she said many people in her generation think of phone calls as bad manners: you interrupt someone at what they're doing (studying, working) and force them to respond to something that could be fairly trivial.
A text is a limited space message the receiver can respond to or not, and at his or her leisure.
