When I inherited "stuff" of no interest or desire, it ended up in the other half of my garage (still in boxes).
This summer I've begun to open them and place the items on the driveway with a big FREE sign.
Amazing how quickly and efficiently the items vanish! Little effort on my part. No loading into the car and taking to Charity or calling someone for a pick-up and hoping they will show up. It's a win-win!

After reading this thread, I'm glad that I never collected anything but coins. I guess they are always worth at least their face value.

Just about 10 years ago, I decided to sell the family home and move back across the country.
Looking back, that tumultuous timing was perfect, as I really don't think I have it in me anymore.
Talk about downsizing!
@Kachina624, my garage was like yours, but add to that the cellar and the attic. All filled to the brim with mostly other people's stuff....and when you have a big place, that's where 'ops' lands.
'Just temporarily', of course.
Some of my adult kids also had their collectibles there, but were warned for years & years to come and get them, or they'd be tossed. Sure they wanted them, just not enough to store them at their places.
Thank God it's behind me!

@Group 5 minus 1 Curious, how much are they asking fo them at garage sales?
Obviously, Hummels and llardo have lost much popularity, but maybe they will come back in time and that makes it the right time to purchase them while the prices are low? I think both of these are a little complicated to understand - I know a tiny bit more about the hummels, but maybe these things hold true for the other. There are markings on them that will show their age and probably place of manufacture and maybe even how large a run it was. There are many newer reproductions so be aware. Some of the designs are scarcer than others. And I think some do still have value, just not as high as they were before. I think this sort of thing takes research / education so you know it when you find something that has 'investment' potential. It's also easier now with cell phones, you can check things while you are there! Try google lens too. And of course if there is something you like, then purchase, just for you.
What is on the upswing collectible wise these days? What's popular?

@Kachina624 wrote:@PINKdogWOOD You ought to see my garage. I seem to be the recipient of the remnants of everyone's estate.
I remember fondly the days when I actually put my car in the garage.
@Kachina624 I had that happen to me and I ditched it. I am not a museum, I want to live my life not somebody else's life either so I dumped it and Salvation Army was happy and I am happier!!!!
If you enjoy dusting or looking at packing boxes, that's you not me! LOL!!!!

@Lilysmom1 The remianing family members are all cousins with whom we all hang together, get along really well too!!! Unfortunately none of them want any of the stuff either, that won't work for me. We live in his G'Parents' home since G'Mother died 1985. She wanted us to buy it l;ock stock & barrel, it's a huge home, over a century old now. We do love it, always have but my clothes are basically the only stuff that's mine in it, short of living rm furn & our bedroom suite.
