I'm not an insomniac, but I'm a very poor sleeper and a very early riser - I always have been. I remember calling my mom from my bedroom as a child, asking "Can I get up now?" and she, who was NOT a morning person would shout back "No! Go back to sleep, the sun's not up yet". That was absolute torture for me. That is one of the reasons I stopped the caffeine. Also, I'm a bit high strung... maybe more than just a bit, and i run on nervous energy all day long. I don't think the caffeine was helping that at all.
My husband, on the other hand, has 4-6 cups of regular coffee each day - his last one after dinner. Not only does he take a nap most days, but he falls asleep within moments of hitting the pillow at night. Sometimes I just wanna reach over and whomp him with my pillow, it's so annoying to a sleep struggler like me, lol.
My mom and dad had coffee about an hour before bed every night of their 62 years married, so I guess the poor-sleeper trait is not genetic.

After thinking I was having bladder infections each time, but no bacteria came back on tests- I think it is cystitis of some sort Even if I get a hot non-caffeine drink at starbucks and they use the machines for coffee, a couple days later I feel it coming on - seriously allergic. I've been off caffeine for about 2 years now - I just deal with it - still LOVE the smell of a cup of coffee, but it's just not worth it.
Hi @hoosieroriginal,
It does the same thing to my bladder, where it irritates it, too. Not to the same extent like you have, but it did in the past.
Now if I have anything with caffeine in it, it's just mildly irritating, and it's more like it will just keep me awake and it will bother my heart, where it will stimulate it too much and cause palpitations, so I avoid it for that reason, too.
So if I have a taste for a soda or a soft drink of any kind, I go for the caffeine-free versions that are available.
