Re: Is anyone NOT watching wall-to-wall storm coverage?

@esmerelda

I'm not watching. No need to do that.

Re: Is anyone NOT watching wall-to-wall storm coverage?

I'm not watching any coverage at all because there's really nothing more to see.  The devastation, the loss of life, the destruction of homes, the bleakness, the damage, reporters acting like fools in the cool rubber hip boots....   I saw all that on day #1.  There was no reason for me to sit in front of of my tv like a zombie and watch it all over and over and over again.  And I know women who are doing that.  I don't what they are getting from that.  I'm like those who say the watch the coverage on their evening news and that's it.  It is hard to get away from, I've been using my mute button a lot when I watch the morning programs...or just skipping them.  If wallowing in the misery of others helped just one single person...I would do it.  But it doesn't help anyone.  I did contribute to the Red Cross and my boyfriend and I are going to Walmart today to pick up Pampers and stuff and we'll drop them off at the distribution center in town.

I watched enough to inspire me to make some donations. My heart goes out to these people. I was thinking about families with small children in diapers. I saw some in a shelter on the news last night. It brings me to tears.....

Re: Is anyone NOT watching wall-to-wall storm coverage?

I had to finally cut down on my viewing. It was disturbing, and often the networks were just repeating what they had already reported non stop. It is such a disaster, and who knows how many dead will be found when all the water has fully receded. The shocking find of six family members drowned in their car was devastating. This morning some local reporter interviewed the relative of that family, and I was ready to slap her with the insensitive, idiotic questions she asked as he was breaking down and then trying to regain composure. Seattle just got a huge shipment of abandoned animals from the storm yesterday. That too was heartbreaking. Will their owners every be reunited with them? For that matter, will their owners have any part of their llives to return to. We took in a lot of Katrina refugees. I wonder if another migration will occur. I've often wondered how many of our Katrina refugees returned to Louisiana. Climate wise along here was a difficult adjustment.

No, I AM watching it; not only am I a 'weather channel Junkie' (not exactly a 'good-thing'), but this time, I really really got caught-up-in-it, for one of my dearest friends, her son, who I have known since birth, is not only a emergency/trauma room Doctor he is also a licensed helicopter pilot who has been doing this for years and is involved in this Catastrophe going on in Houston....he lives there. His home flooded, but he made sure that his wife and child got Out BEFORE the poop-hit-the-fan. Working 10-16 hours shifts at the moment; sometimes in the air and sometimes....on the ground.

So, I am watching. And I pray for his Safety and ALL of those that are so severely affected by this TERRIBLE Catastrophe. Smiley Sad

I do understand though, for many different reasons 'why'...some of us... just cannot.. do that.

@moondust, I watch quite a bit of the Weather Channel too.

While I have not been watching wall to wall coverage, I certainly have been following the coverage.  I do like to be informed, just because.   I have the TV on while I am at home and can watch/listen while I am doing various tasks. So I have certainly been following quite a bit of the coverage.  Right now since the remenants of Harvey will be moving into my state later this evening I am also paying attention to local weather forecasts.

It is also interesting that when you follow the coverage and know the events as they occur, it can be interesting to read comments from those that obviously haven't been following the story.  I had to SMH earlier this week reading a comment here about how the people in Texas had more than ample warning and should have evacuated.  That person went on to say that with hurricanes, people have at least a week's notice it is coming.  It was evident this person had no knowledge at all about both the path & development of Harvey.  Doesn't change anything, but it does help when people are truly aware of how a situation develops.
