I have no TV so I just watch the local news on my pad. My big living room TV went out about a year ago, got a new one but the old one is in an armoire and it's too big and bulky for me to manage. Then the satellite receiver in the bedroom went out last week. Not really missing TV much.

@SeaMaiden It just amazes me how grown adults can find enough to say to talk about some mundane item like an umbrella or pillow for an hour. A viewer must be a special kind of stupid to sit and listen to it all.

@Kachina624 So true! I just can not get excited about an umbrella. As far as your not having TV on....I am so addicted to TV. I could not stand it not having one! I am sure it probably is good to take a break....Healthy....but I would lose my mind without TV!😮

I went though Andrew so I know exactly what's happening. Maybe it's PTSD but I just don't want to relive it.
I have purposely stopped watching anything that I know is going to raise my blood pressure or make me upset. These days I pretty much watch my DVR shows of classic tv. It has honestly had such a calming effect on my life. I was even able to return to these boards.
Highly recommend turning the dial or shutting it off!

@Laura14 I, too, went through Andrew and I can tell you it's absolutely NOTHING at all like what they are getting in Houston. Even tho Andrew was a Cat 5, there was no water. No people wading in the streets, no rescues like we are seeing on TV. Houses were flattened, roofs flew off, people lost their homes - but nothing at all like we are seeing now.
Andrew was over the next morning. All the neighbors came out to a sunny day and were grateful we survived. We had no power for 3 weeks (I had a generator) but that was the worst of it. There was no rain and it was over in less than 24 hours.
Sorry, but you don't know "exactly what's happening". There is no comparison.

I'm addicted to my TV, too. A couple of months ago I lost all of my TVs and computer to a lightning strike that hit my house. I did indeed lose my mind for about three days from not having any screens to look at, plus the trauma of having the lightning hit my house made it a total living h*ll. No phone either.

No. I am not watching 24/7. I check the news morning, noon, night and keep informed. It is absolutely heartbreaking.

Catastrophic events cause very personal and individual trauma, and it's not valid or fair to make any kind of comparisons where personal trauma is involved. No one can tell another person that their circumstance, experience, or feelings are better or worse than another's.

I'm not, the press has politicized the tragedy, so I'm done with it........
