uhh - haven't most of those been of the retired age-range?
What age would that be @ThinkingOutLoud ? There is no such thing as "retirement age." I have doctors who are still working and their older than me.
There is also an unaddressed issue for the "long haulers" (people who survived Covid, but are still symptomatic with lung problems, loss of taste, memory and heart issues), to name just a few. Some have already had to have lung transplants and limb amputations.
These are young and middle aged people who, at this point in time, do not know if they will ever be able to return to the work force.
@RoughDraft this too. We forget just how many people were infected with Covid....

Noticed the same thing on Sunday when I went shopping on a lot of bare shelves, we thought what is going on have they discontinued carrying all these products? I can't imagine why we would have problems again.

@Silkeej Did you inquire within the store you shopped in as to why the shelves were so bare? The Covid problem is not over either.
I must say, I am grateful that there are no shortages for the items I need where I live right now. I hope it stays that way.

We hit up Aldi this past Saturday; the only they did not have were eggs. They DID have brown, cage free eggs at $2.99 a carton. We needed eggs so I bought them. Part of me wonders if this was just a sales ploy because they wanted to get rid of them; another part said no, they just didn't get a delivery. I don't put anything past Corporate America when it comes to giving consumers the big old *bleep* in the world today.
I'll tell you something about retail, hiring people, shortages, etc thanks to Ex-Walmart Son. In other threads I mentioned he had left Walmart to return to school full-time. I'll tell you a few things that made that decision easy for him:
*the refusal to give an employee a set schedule. Now, you have a SHIFT schedule but your hours could switch as late as a few hours before your shift would start. How are you supposed to plan ANYTHING if this happens? How do you arrange for child care (as someone else mentioned) or appointments or carpool/catch the bus? Despite constant complaints to management, it would not change so the turn-over was huge.
*wanting you to come in early and stay late but when you refused, getting in your face and yelling at you. If you're supposed to work 5-8 but come in at noon to help out because the crew is short and then leave at 7 (due to lunch break), your boss shouldn't tell you to NOT every volunteer again to help if you won't stay till 8 (but that means overtime and they've stated NO OVERTIME). It's a no-win situation.
*having different rules for employees who are family. No better way to divide a crew than to allow family members to break the rules and then allow them to flaunt that fact to everyone they work with.
*simply not hiring enough people because why bother? The crew you have will just be made to work harder until there is an injury or they all walk off the job.
Walmart is making SO much money but the workers who make that profit possible are paid little and treated poorly. Same with Amazon but.....people keep supporting those stores. Though there are signs all over where I live for help wanted, they appear to NOT want help unless you can work anytime they say, do not only your job but another job that usually someone else would do but pay you for only one job. My son and his friends WANT to work but because they are new to the workforce, they can't get hired. Parent after parent after parent has stated this has shocked them because of all the Help Wanted signs. Talking 16-20 year old students; college students would love to work but employers won't work around their class schedule.
After awhile, I'm not feeling so sad for companies claiming they can't find anyone to hire, you know?

We are not out of the woods. Cases are rising in 42 states. Not a good sign.

They are rising with the Delta variant, and among those who didn't get vaccinated.

There are certain brands of food disappearing. Just not on the shelf. I've requested them and the distributors can't deliver them. They are not discontinued, just not available anymore.

No sidebars so it should be ok.
I guess not. *sigh* I'm not sure why-are we not allowed links anymore?
Asking for a friend. LOL
eta: Now there is a new thread about the same topic and in that link is another link to the same article I posted.
Mine had no sidebars but that new source does along with links to other sites.
@Anonymous Asking a sincere question. What did I do wrong?? It's not a challenge-I need to know what standard I violated so I do not make the same mistake.

@Cakers3 When I clicked the link there were political sidebars. Cindy
