Re: Is July 6 s designated national day off?

Our offices that are normally opened on weekdays only were closed on Friday since the holiday fell on Saturday.  I was off on Friday.  In my area if the business is normally open on a Saturday, like the bank, they were closed on Saturday, the actual holiday.

Most people are back to work today, as usual.

Where I worked, if the holiday fell on Sat., you got Friday off. If it fell on Sun., you got Mon. off. That's how it is where my sister works, also.

Companies decide what is a designed holiday for them.  As far as the federal government, I received mail on Friday, so I do not believe that it was considered a holiday, at least by post office standards.  Almost every school is closed, and my local government is doing everything virtually, so as far as I am concerned, they have the day off with pay.

On a personal level July 6th has been more of an off day than a day off.

Pay & Leave Federal Holidays Overview

Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the public holidays listed in these pages for Federal employees. Please note that most Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. For these employees, when a holiday falls on a nonworkday -- Saturday or Sunday -- the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday).

The holiday was on Saturday--oddly enough, the 4th of July.

No, I don't think so.  In fact, I heard since the Fourth fell on Saturday, most people would not get a day off.  I even got a UPS delivery on Saturday.

@Kachina624  And yet Fedex was off for the holiday on Saturday. Of course, you'd have a hard time convincing me they aren't a little off everyday.

As others have said though, when the holiday falls on a Saturday then Friday is the day off and when it falls on a Sunday then Monday is the day off, other, of course than those holidays that are always celebrated on a Monday.
