The Wolf You Feed

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed.

I am saving this to reread anytime I have negative emotions. That is powerful.

There is a world of difference between "unforgivable" and "unforgettable!"

Forgiving doesn't mean being friends or even respecting again!

Forgiveness is for yourself...not others!

For me I have forgiven those that have wronged me.  It is the will of God.  I am willing to let God handle them in his wisdom.

@Bhvbum   Yes God forgives, but he also teaches us that we reap what we sow....

Here is my whole comment again, I think you are missing all of what I said:

I think everything is forgivable. God forgives all offenses, but that person would have to pay for the act, be remorseful, and you may never trust that person again.

Abuse of children, elderly, animals?

Those are unforgiveable.

Re: Is Anything "Unforgivable"?

I haven't read all of the responses yet....forgive me if I'm repeating.

This is hard to answer, because everyone has their own tolerance level for what they can forgive in their personal life...and different definitions of what "forgiveness" actually means.

I don't think forgiveness is a "feeling"....it's a choice, to not harbor hatred, and to not wish evil on the person who has done wrong.    That doesn't mean you have to "feel" nice toward them...and it doesn't mean they don't have to pay the legal and social ramifications for what they have done.

My mom used to say forgiveness meant if you saw someone who had done evil lying bloody on the side of the road, you would stop and help them....I guess it was her paraphrase of the Good Samaritan story!

Re: Is Anything "Unforgivable"?

In order for me to consider forgiveness for people I know personally, what ever the reason, here is what I expect from the offender: 1. show remorse; 2. take responsibility; 3. repair the damage; 4. do not repeat!   If offender cannot recognize the need to be decent enough to do these actions, they are not worth forgiving!

There are many unforgiveable crimes committed by others, emotional abuse to humans and/or animals, physical harm in any form to others (adult or child), physical harm in any form to animals, murder or killing of humans or animals.  Many crimes and law breaking.

Infidelity.

If I took vows and they cheated.

I am out.

I do see women that can turn the other way if this happens I am just not one of them.

I know I am being naive but I just couldn’t go on in the marriage after that.
