Is An Omission The Same As a Lie?

We had this discussion at work today. If you ask your partner a direct question and some key points are intentionally omitted to avoid an argument, do you consider that a lie?

Well, without more information than is presented here, I would say it is not a lie, as a lie is a "commission", not an "omission", but it could be deceitful, and I think that is the issue---without all the facts, are you being deceived?

i dont think that question has enough information to be answered in an easy ""yes"" or ""no"" way.

Lying by omission is lying, imo. It's deception whether it's the spoken word or the deliberate withholding of the facts.

IF the situation's outcome doesn't change because of the ""omission"" then I'm inclined to think it is not a lie.

Leaving out an important fact could be a lie of omission.
