I keep trying to leave the city before the 5:00 traffic hits and I get stuck in 3:00 traffic. Is 3:00 p.m. the new 5:00 p.m.?

I have a family member that would try to time things to avoid the rush hour traffic but usually found they weren't the only ones making the attempt. :/

Maybe school traffic? I notice after 2pm traffic picks up in my city and gets worse all afternoon until 7 pm. I try to schedule appointments and run errands after morning rush and before mid afternoon. Not always possible though.

I have found out that rush hour traffic starts around three thirty, it used to be later.  I try my best to avoid the traffic now that I am retired!

@monicakm.  3pm has always been a bad time for traffic because that's when all 7am to 3pm shift worker leave work, including many medical personnel.

I never make appointments in the medical center where I'll be in the area at 3pm.

@monicakm  Ohhh yeah!  When I go home to Baltimore for a visit, I always leave by 2 pm.  The 7 to 3 shifts in hospitals and factories start piling up and after the Key Bridge collapse, the Harbor Tunnel gets backed up so quickly.  While I miss my hometown a lot, traffic isn't missed.  I drive 6 miles to work on back roads...no one else on the road!

Hoping your husband is tolerating rehab well!

"Rush Hour" in Phoenix can be anywhere from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

I am in California.  I live on far southern end of Silicon Valley. I don't commute anymore. But, we go into Silicon Valley all the time for appts.  We have found over the last 6 years, Thursday was the new Friday, then it iwas Wedsday was new Friday.  The last year, not only has Tuesday become the new Friday.  But 2:30pm is the new 4:40pm traffic.  Awful. Then on saturdays going south it is bumper to bumper from San Jose going south for 40 miles!!!  No kidding. We know the backroads but the working people have discovered those now, lol.  Covid lock downs were the only time in 30 years we were able to fo 38 miles in 35-40 mins   That 38 miles takes 1.5 to 2.15 mins now
