People who live on the barrier beaches ( Miami Beach, Palm Beach, Singer Island, etc.) put first responders in a terrible position when they don't follow evacuation pleas. I've also seen that over and over here on Long Island when those on Fire Island and low-lying areas of the big Island also dercide to stay.
Do keep in mind that million of Floridians have been asked to shelter in place - that doesn't mean they, too, won't suffer. They will - it's just harder to predict how much. But should they need emergency help, the responders wouldn't be putting their lives in immediate danger when they respond.
But the people who live in Zone A evacuation areas put their own lives in danger as well as the lives and time of those charged with helping with the after-effects. That's about as selfish as it gets. Even people who live in the other zones may have health issues or unusual flooding likelihood that mean they should move. All the rest - the frustration and fear of waiting to see the extent of the damage. I can't imagine there won't be massive damage. Irma is huge.
