For some reason, I suddenly thought of Iris Apfel tonight and hopped over to the HSN online site to see what she has recently created. In the past, some of her creations have tempted me. However, there are not many things remaining that do call my name. By the looks of things ("Sold Out" or "Clearance" tags are attached to each item), Iris has stopped her active sales on HSN.
She is 100, of course. And there has been the pandemic. Do any of you know if she has officially said farewell to HSN, or are the meager offerings simply a matter of her taking a break? I am curious to know.
I hope she is in good health and still creating, if only for herself.
ETA: Be sure to read Message #13 to learn what this force of creativity has been up to in her 100th year. Who knew?

@golding76 I have no answer for you, but I do know that every once in a while when I am sorting jewelry and thinking about donating some pieces, I keep them thinking I might have an Iris Appel Day sometime.

I found this online....
Currently, due to the pandemic, Apfel is restricting her social activities, so she spends time reading, thinking, or finding new ways to amuse herself. She says she’s tired of being treated “like a coddled egg” but is willing to give up a few things so she can stay healthy. “I have a nice terrace, so I get my fresh air that way,” she adds.

I think she very sensibly recognizes her vulnerability and is being extremely careful. Even with Skype, she'd have to have contact with outsiders.

Yes, you are right. At 100 going on 101 (God willing) in August, she is hyper-vulnerable. I'm much younger than she is, but because of my "advanced years," I pay close attention to the sorts of activities I will engage in. Better to be cautious now and wait for the time that things truly seem to be back to the Before Time.
Some of my relatives and friends in my age group take more risks (traveling far and wide within the U.S.) than I do, but I will add to my "repertoire" when I am comfortable. They join friends at parties, attend family reunions and socialize in country clubs.
I'm just not there yet.

@golding76 I always admired her. Her and I would be friends in real life. I love her style. More is more. ![]()

She has always been a favorite of mine, too, and I agree she has a spirit that is so contagious.
I just got off the phone with a very polite rep from HSN. Not knowing whether Iris has retired or not, she checked with a supervisor.
The rep relayed the following message: If Iris officially retires, HSN will announce that on air. At this time, Iris has not submitted a retirement notice, and so there might be a Spring/Summer collection coming up. But no one really knows.

@Queen of shop @golding76 I wonder if she uses a computer? We could invite her to join us here. She sounds bored. I bet she'd be a hoot!
