Re: Introverts - What They Are and Aren't

@Moonchilde Honestly, this thread almost makes me wonder whether the "introverts" who people think they can boss around are just mild-mannered, shy or conflict-avoidant people, both introverts and extroverts.

As this thread has shown, some introverts are feisty and some extroverts can be shy (like the one poster who said she figured that must mean she's an introvert, but she fits the definition of "extrovert" much better). It also seems like a reaonsable conclusion, to me, that people who define their lives more by other people (extroverts) would also be more people-pleasing, and therefore likely to not challenge someone.

@HomeShoppingLover87 there definitely are personality types that do avoid conflict. My Type is one of them, actually ;-) and through my 30s I certainly did. But everyone changes, adapts, learns and grows as they age - plus personality typing isn't a closed box where everyone has all the traits all the time, it's more fluid than that. And yes, there is much more to personality typing than just introversion and extroversion.

Re: Introverts - What They Are and Aren't

I've come late to this interesting thread so I haven't read everything yet.

Just wanted to say I've been tested and was found to be introverted which I always knew.

I've found it's very easy to tell if one is introverted or extroverted in a very easy way: it's where you re-energize yourself. An introvert after being with a crowd of people, goes to be alone and quiet to energize. While an extrovert becomes energized just by being among crowds of people.

Re: Introverts - What They Are and Aren't

As far as testing, and answering test questions, there can definitely be "how should I answer that?" questions.

Most groups will tell you to answer how you feel *most* of the time - there will be "well, it depends" types of questions - just go with your gut feelings as to how strongly you might feel about the issue *most* of the time.

Also, answer based on what you would naturally *prefer* to do, or think, your basic gut instinct answer NOT based on how society and the workplace has "forced" you to cope, i.e. a 60 year old who took the test in their 20s and now re-takes it will think they look at things differently now, and wonder if Type can change. Researchers say no, your basic personality type does not change, though you may learn and adapt and develop coping mechanisms.

LOL indeed, @MaggieMack - I KNEW this thread would ferret out some INFJs, I just knew it! HIGH presence on discussion boards ;-)

Let's hear it for the 1%-ers (including me, if you had any doubt)!

@Moonchilde, I definitely had my suspicions. We're a small minority!

Not to criticize the OP, but it got me to thinking....

Those terms (introvert/extrovert) are from Jung, early 20th century. They are probably due for an overhaul.  They don't work for me, as it depends. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  Maybe it's time for an update for those "either/or" terms in general.  People are not one thing or another, but many things at different times.

@Burnsite, I never view it as an either/or, truly many people find themselves straddling the midline. And many of the current assessment systems allow for identifying positions all across the continuum.

@Moonchilde @MaggieMack I'm an INFJ too!!! Yay, I have a few fellow hyper-intuitive, misunderstood mutants.
