I love when moot courts use fairy tales as court cases!

Huh?

Happy to see that all of the Christmas movies are actually starting tonight at 7pm. Just finished our Christmas Eve meal and will be leaving shortly. I originally intended to see Unbroken, but I guess the fact that it received no major recent nominations made me think it likely wasn't as good as I was hoping. So, decided to do this one instead!

Sondheim=Fabulous, no matter what. Let us know what you think after you see it.

12:40 show. I have my "movie candy" in my purse and I am ready for popcorn. Not a real fan of Sondheim, but I do love this play! From what I have read, Johnny Depp will be the Russell Crowe of this musical, but I am looking forward to it. Meryl Streep is no Bernadette Peters, and the tracks I have heard from the new soundtrack are not that great, but I am looking forward to seeing it and see what they do with it. It will be hard to please the people who know the play and then others who don't won't be happy with the "dark" parts. It is amusing to read reviews written by people who have no idea what the play is about and complain about how they should have stopped at the Happily Ever After part.

I heard that many times after we did the show. The first Act IS a lot of fun, but the second Act is deep and poignant. That's how Sondheim rolls.

Exactly - the first time I saw it on B'way, I thought it was a really short show and it was done at Intermission - after all, what was left??? Like I said, I am not a big Sondheim fan (words are brilliant, melodies hurt my ears), but this one is wonderful. One of my "bucket list" parts in community theater is to play Jack's mother.

Our drama and music teachers actually wanted me to play Jack's Mother and I was totally against it. Totally. I had my heart set on Cinderella. After auditions, they chose a Cinderella (not me). I was called back for Jack's Mother (grrrr). So at call backs, the girl who was supposed to read and sing for Little Red wasn't there yet so the music teacher said to me - "Why don't you just sing this while we wait for her?" When I was done singing the song, there was a long look between the drama teacher and music teacher. They knew it was meant for me. Smiley Happy I'm so glad I played her - it was so much fun!

Yes, I would think that Little Red would be much more fun than Jack's Mother. When you get to a certain age, there are only certain parts you can play and I am in the range of mothers now! Also would like to play Golde in Fiddler and Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. But, yeah, give a choice between Little Red or J's M - glad you got the good part.

Funny thing is --- I wouldn't mind playing Jack's Mother now. I think she's hilarious.

In Fiddler and Cinderella, I would pick those exact characters to play too. Smiley Happy
