International Spam Calls

[ Edited ]

So I have been receiving calls from the UK, Greece and Russia. I'm going to call my carrier to see if we can have them blocked. Usually after the international call, I get a call from a random number in the US. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  Hope everyone has a good safe week!

UPDATE ... this is on my cell phone we haven't had a landline for years. So frustrating.

Re: International Spam Calls

Everyday on our landline phone. Our phones have the option to call block, but these places have gadgets to use and fake other numbers. We get at least 2 or 3 calls asking if we wish to sell our property, even the extra empty lot that has a seperate address. Local and seemingly foreign.

DH raises his BP and yells "we are on a no call list" --which is worthless.

Usually I just do not answer unless I recognize the #. Sometimes I answer just for the heck of it. Get religous with them explaining the price of lying (when they say they are with medicare or the govenment) , or say yes we were thinking of selling and our price would be one million $. I also have a child's toy megaphone that has a siren alarm on it. I get so tired of the calls. The best option is to ignore.

We rarely get these on our cell phones. Thank goodness (fingers crossed.)

Re: International Spam Calls

On my cell phone I got 28 calls on one day from someone speaking Chinese. I am guessing it was Chinese, it sounded like Chinese to me.

If I had to guess, I think it was a robo call. Didn't sound personal.

I still get Chinese calls on my cell phone but not 28 a day. I also get Spanish calls but they are personal. I do not speak Spanish and they do not speak English. So I no longer answer my phone from that area code. In fact I rarely answer my phone anymore. People communicate with me through emails.

I think the worst thing you can do is answer those calls, I think it gets in a database that the number is live.  I never answer and it has slowed down to only a few a week.

Re: International Spam Calls

Our landline is only for the printer/fax machine.  We don't even have a phone for it.  I do see calls that come it, obviously spam since no one has that number.  Maybe out of country, maybe not.  I don't care. Junk is junk.  I don't get much junk at all on my mobile phone.  I do get an occasional text or call from China or some Asian country.  Sounds like China.  I just hang up and block the number.

🤔 Once you pick up that phone, you are essentially considered doing business with whoever is calling, and thereby giving them permission to not only call you back, but to hand out your number to any scammer that they associate with.

Re: International Spam Calls

The best thing you can do is get rid of your home phone. We got rid of ours. If you want to keep your home phone get one with an answering machine so you can turn off the ringer. If someone is trying to reach you they can leave a message. If it's someone you want to talk to you can pickup. This way you bypass all the scams.

My MIL was getting so many scam calls we had her home phone cut off. She's 93 so we don't need her talking to scammers. She has a cell phone now which she said she likes much better.

Everyday on our landline.

Everyday on my DH iPhone but it blocks the calls and says it's SPAM. He also gets texts everyday.

I try to never answer my landline or my cellphone unless I recognize the phone number. If I miss an important call, the person can leave a message & I can call them back.
