I watched it last night.  The Kennedy/Nixon campaign was my first presidential voting experience.  I loved Kennedy (of course).  I do remember rumors about the hanky panky in Illinois (dead people voting) but the press did not make the fuss about it that they do today.

It was a short and magical time, "Camelot."  It didn't last long, unfortunately, and was only half true.

John Kennedy and Bobby DID keep us from nuclear war though during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  They handled it perfectly.  We all thought we were doomed for sure . . . it was very, very frightening.  I'll never forget the sight of those ships in the canal, and the tremendous relief when they turned around and left.

@LilacTree, I was a toddler at the time but I've always been a Kennedy supporter.

That said, if I remember correctly, there were about 7,000 "dead" votes that probably mainly came out of Mayor Daley's Chicago stronghold.

I was a young mom with my first baby.  Even my pragmatic husband was terrified.  We were hours away from nuclear war and the East Coast would have been the target.  My mom was telling us to take the baby and drive out west.  I think a lot of folks did that.

Yep, I believe Mayor Daley was corrupt enough to have done the voting fraud, but I believe they all are.  That was a stupid move though.

As for the Kennedys, I can't vouch for their personal lives, but I do believe that as a family they have done much for society in general for many, many decades.  They used their wealth in charitable ways and still do.
