This is terrible news. I feel bad for these workers but we also need to be able to get food.

Yes, I've never used Instacart (we do the pick-up at Walmart Neighborhood Market down the street) but I imagine this will affect a lot of shoppers.
Sincerely hope they can come to an agreement.

Can the act The President enacted today be used to force them back to work?

wow!
good for them.
there is no law in the usa that can force people to work.
if there was, most people would not have been sent home.
duh!
legally, they are not employees.
gig workers fall into a different category from 'employees'.
yes, people with disabilities need groceries.
able bodied people can fend for themselves.
if it was 2000, how would people get groceries?
by that i mean, in 2000, there was no instacart, so what would you do?
if you think these people should go to work without the minuscule things that they are asking for, for protection, perhaps, you should apply for one of the 300,000 openings to get a real feel for what they are going through.
your life is no more valuable then theirs.
what the selfishness is going on?

The act should have provided health and a raise. That would have made sense. The hugh tax cut to business and breaking up of a health care shows pure arrogance toward the working class.

Not to mention they are probably being paid close to minimum wage and miniscule amount toward mileage...

Instacart is the only way I get groceries. I decided to place an order today rather than wait till Monday like I was planning. Hopefully they reach an agreement that boosts their wages, provides more protection, etc. Overall, their shoppers do an amazing job. Honestly, I think I often end up with better quality fresh items than if I did my own shopping, tho I suspect that may change a bit as they hire all these new people who have likely been laid off from totally unrelated jobs and have no real experience shopping.

i doubt they are getting paid for mileage, as that can be deducted on their tax return.
only asking for $5 more per delivery is what got me. that is way to low and doesn't leave any wiggle room for negotiation. at a minimum, they should start off asking for $20 per delivery.
