I so agree. I'm staying away from posts like the OP is referring to. Just too much going back and forth for me. Too confusing.

My reply will end up being an O/T gripe.
i DO sometimes read, go away and consider, then come back and reply without reading all posts...my bad🤭
I do this if I can SUCCINCTLY give an opinion or consideration.
And now for the gripe:
I don’t/won/t read long convoluted posts. I will read long posts where necessary details are laid out well.
Does anyone else think the world now communicates in 11 or less word “tweets?”
This has spoiled communication for me.

@LTT1 I have a problem coming into a post that has five or more pages and trying to read all of it when facts change from page to page. Mercy. I end up going back and rereading because I think I have missed something or misunderstood something.
I completely agree with the OP that the facts should be given upfront. And, I also don't appreciate being attacked for my thought processes when they were asked for in the first place.

I don’t blame you one bit!
When you spend time giving an answer based on your thought process, it should be appreciated!

@VanSleepywrote:I think sometimes the OP thinks she (he) is giving all the information necessary, but as people give their opinions and ask questions and make assumptions, she provides more information for clarification.
Yes. This does happen a lot.
Some people do seem to just dribble out the information but a lot of times, the thread goes in totally different directions and people make some really weird assumptions and the OP has to give more information or at least clarify.
I'm amazed at the number of people who can't or don't read an OP correctly, and ask questions that are already in the original post, or confuse the facts etc. And usually it is with a high and mighty tone, when in fact it is them that has messed up, not the OP.

@BirkiLadywrote:@Sooner @hckynut It's also annoying when posters jump in responding with "Haven't read previous posting, but here are my thoughts . . . " How can their comment have any credibility if they haven't been following all of the posts? Makes NO sense.
IF the original post is asking for opinions or information about something specific, there is no need to read the entire thread. You simply respond to what is in the original post.
What comes in the ensuing pages may or may not be addressing other posts or clarifying the subject, but when the original post is being very specific for advice, I don't need to know what else has been said to make a comment, give an opinion or share my experience.
For instance the thread this week about what would you do or what do you do when invited dinner guests are always late.
I don't need to know, if in the following discussions over pages and pages, it is shared why they are late, what the OP has done in the past, what the relationship dynamics are or any other things that come to light. I can and do express my answer to the Original Post. Sometimes I go back and read and respond to other things posted, sometimes I don't. And if I haven't read the replies I say so, so anyone reading my answer doesn't wonder why I haven't gone off on the tangents or why I'm maybe saying the same thing 30 other posters did.
I feel often the posts are asking for an opinion or an experience, and it really isn't relevant for me to know everything else in the thread to respond to that OP.

If the original post had ALL pertinent info, how many people would read it? That would be a rather long post.

@Mominohio @Sooner @hckynut Understand the reasoning behind wanting to leave an unbiased response; however, if you have not read the entire thread, you may be leaving one of 25-30 of the same responses already there. Many of us DO wade through the entire threads to see what the OP has added or what questions have been asked to encourage those additions. It's an interesting give and take . . . or "game" with some OP's.
Thus, I also find it a game when posters don't bother to check if their response has already been posted. You read the question and your values instinctively tell you how to respond. It seems like a courtesy to check for duplication of efforts. Some of those threads become lengthy and off-track unnecessarily. If my response has been added, I don't comment at all. Simple and well mannered.
Correct me if I'm out-of-line to suggest that. I'm open to comments!

I agree. Many subjects get more revealed as people bring up different points or perspectives.
Many times, the OP has no idea where a thread will go, so starts out with what seems most important to them, or with exactly what they think needs to be said.
Many people won't read and respond to a really lengthy original post, so I think a lot of people try to keep it simple to start.

@Sooner @hockeynut
If an OP asks for advice, I do not have a responsibility to read all the responses posted before. The OP can sift and sort the advice.
There are times I read a few of the respondent's' opinions but, just as @hockeynut noted, many replies are addressed to a second or third party, which can get confusing.
Also, I liked what John H. said about responding with his own answer--not being swayed by someone else's opinion.
