Incident at Frys Food Store

[ Edited ]

I am diligent in only going to the grocery store when I have to. I have tried numerous stores, etc for delivery but you have to wait about 5 days and then may not get everything you ordered. My milk was delivered very warm, to the point I was afraid to use it, not so much the delivery guys fault since I live in Az where it has been over 100 degrees.

So, I ventured out to Frys Food Store. I was shocked to see employees stocking the shelves unmasked. When I very politely mentioned to them for their safety they should wear a mask they giggled and said it was voluntary and the manager himself did not wear one.  Then I went to the Starbucks on the way out to get a iced tea and a young female employee came up behind me ignoring the tape so I politely asked her to step back for social distancing.  SHe gave me attitude, rolling her eyes and said I should just lock myself up at home.  As I turned around to leave she started laughing with the employee at Starbucks.    I did call Frys the next day and I told them about both incidences, unfortunately I did not have their names.

Went to another Frys yesterday, and again many of the employees were without masks. We have not reached our peak yet and I do not understand why small businesses have stringent rules about face masks, etc yet large corporate businesses such as Walmart and frys, etc do not.

I won't ever shop at Frys anymore, if they care so little about our safety, I dont care if they go under!

By the way I am 71 and healthy, but my partner has bad asthma and had cancer so he is high risk.

I shop at Fry's too and the majority of employees were wearing masks.

I don't want any business to "go under". Why would you wish unemployment on so many families?

From Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist and prof:ssor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine:

Surgical masks, which many people end up buying in stores, are designed to keep what’s in a surgeon’s mouth and nose from getting into a surgical field, he points out. “They’re really quite effective at doing that, but they’re not air tight around the edges,” Dr. Schaffner says. When you breathe through and around them, it doesn’t provide optimal respiratory protection.”

The Frys I have shopped in is located by a large 55 plus community and the employees are masked and have marked off the floor, etc.  I prefer a less crowded Safeway though, mainly because the aisles are wider.

Cases are increasing in this state.

Re: Incident at Frys Food Store

Not everyone will be wearing masks.  We must accept it.  Some cannot, due to medical issues, and some will not.

If anyone is high risk, they will have to take precautions.

I am in Illinois and any time I am out, the vast majority are wearing some sort of face covering.  The guy with the dirty old bandana tied around his face really does not make me feel any safer.  I just do not think some of the face coverings I am seeing are effective.  But that is what is happening.

I would be careful about telling others to wear a mask or to keep away.  In Chicago a group beat up and robbed a guy that told them to social distance.

@Calcgirl. You should call the Starbucks 800 number and report what you wrote here, even if you don't know their names.

I have found that unfortunately with grocery shopping the store employees simply ignore social distancing even with numerous sign up for the customers to do it. 🤬

I go to a Basha’s, which is smaller and less crowded than Fry’s. If I go early on a non-senior day, there are very few customers and I feel very safe. I seldom went there before, preferring larger selection of other stores but I will probably continue with them to some degree, because they’re there for me now, if that makes any sense.

FYI Fry’s is the same as Kroger, Basha’s is a family owned chain in AZ.

There are 3 grocery stores I will go into where I live.  I have found out that a few others just don't seem to give a hoot about regulations.  So they don't get my business.

I think the attitude you experienced is just going to keep popping up all over the country as more businesses reopen.

Doesn't much matter as you are all breathing in the same air conditioned air. Unless wearing a N95 properly sealed against the skin a regular dust or homemade mask only provides a false sense of security.

Re: Incident at Frys Food Store

Our county mandates the wearing of masks in stores. I'm glad, even though I admit not loving them. We are not obligated to wear them outside, so I exercise walk with a naked face. always with distancing in mind.
