I probably have 100 cookbooks dating back to late 1800'. Out of these many cookbooks, I use probably 4 or 5 at most repeatedly.  However, I too have toned down the cooking, baking and eat cleaner and plainer.  I don't bake like I used too, as I eat it all lol. For good recipes I use over and over I return to The frugal Gourmet, Foster's Market, gee etch paltrow's fist book and Ina garden. The recipes are creative, adaptable and just packed with flavor.  Works for me

I have every cookbook that The Frugal Gourmet ever wrote. I was saddened by the demise of his career but that doesn't change the fact that, like yourself, I go back time and time again to his books for recipes. His Cuban Black bean Soup is a staple in our family. The kids and grand kids have all grown and moved on but they still request "my" Cuban Black bean Soup when they are around. I have given all of them the recipe but they all say that theirs just doesn't come out like "mine". Smiley Happy

yes,  the Cuban bean soup!  It so flavorful.  Also, I love the Firehouse Chili.  I make it with ground chicken.  His recipes are packed with flavor,  the greatest tip he ever gave me was toasting the cumin seeds, oh my there is a night and day difference in the flavor.  I always remember, hot pan cold oil, lol!!!

yes, it was a shame about his demise,  in those days with no internet and such I never knew why he wasn't on the air anymore.  I heard it years later,

I am #TeamIna and have all of her cookbooks.  I, agree, that she does repeat some recipes or re-imagines them with a new ingredient (How Easy is That) or a new way to cook it (Make It Ahead) but I still enjoyed the recipes I made from them.

Every recipe I have made of Ina's has been spot on in terms of flavor and even when I question the amount of an ingredient (like the 2/3 cup of mint leaves in her Fresh Pea Soup recipe), I make it as written and it is perfect.

I've made 2 or 3 recipes that were good but I wouldn't make again, they just weren't my cup of tea, but many are regulars in my rotation.  And her baking recipes have won me many ribbons at my county fair.

I have been looking forward to this cookbook since she announced it and the new season of shows because we are guaranteed more Jeffrey this year ;o)

I buy them at Costco.  It is always available the day of release and is the cheapest anywhere.

i admit the cookbook is tempting too especially the part in the back of the book with the favorite brands, however, I just can not forget her past failure with the Make-A-Wish Child's request she declined twice.  She did later try to make up for it, but it seemed that only occurred after it went very public.  Later it was stated that she was supposedly unaware of the request and that her team was responsible for turning the child down, however it is hard to imagine anyone declining a request like that.  I’m glad the child was able to move on and the mother’s blog indicated only goodwill to Ina, but it still made me sad and unwilling to buy anymore of Ina’s items.

The fact is you do not know the whole story.  She says she did not know and that her staff did not pass the request along.  Do you have any proof to the contrary or are you simply condemning someone based on gossip, rumor, and innuendo?

Unless you have actual proof, you are unfairly condemning someone without knowing all the facts.

Excellent point. It seems to be fine to judge somebody without knowing all the details. Ina Garten has always said she didn't know anything about the request, that her staff never said anything. If there's something else going on, or if Ina is lying, I'd like to see proof please. Every time Ina's name is mentioned on these boards, somebody always goes off on the Make-A-Wish tangent and, I might add, without knowing the facts. If you want to lambaste her, that's fine. But for just once, I'd like to see some proof that she knew and she denied the boy's request.

And yes, I probably will buy this book.

@PamelaSue72 Whether she did or not who cares.  I hate people that hold grudges.  Nobody's perfect.  I bought her book and can't wait to get it.
