I agree.  First, people are always ready to believe gossip and pass it along as truth.  Second, how could anyone famous possibly fulfill every request they get?

I don't understand how or why this old thing always pops up either. . .

Ina is my all-time favorite cooking personality.  I remember when this happened and the criticism she received.  For a long time, she has remained quite private and turned down ALL requests regardless of the organization.  Even after she finally agreed to a cooking show on FN did she stay out of the spotlight.  It is only recently she has done more public appearances.  Not sure if she is less private about her personal life or she wants to promote herself in a different way.  It has always been my dream to drive out to East Hampton one day and casually bump into her and then be invited to dinner at her house.  LOL!  A friend of mine actually lives quite near her and we always joke that we're going to drive back and forth in front her home.  Nah, we're not really going to do that, but boy, it would be something else if I could just have one little peak inside that house AND eat her signature roast chicken.  YUM!

@Jaspersmom would you mind if I tagged along as I would just to visit too (and maybe if we're lucky Jeffrey will light the back of charcoal on fire again too!) . . . Smiley Happy

my opinion on that is, people believe the first accusation.  If they don't believe it, they remember it.  Most just take the news as the read or hear it, they never research further.  When rumor an innuendo are proved to be false you never hear about it.  Or, it gets a line on the back page of a remote newspaper!

I love Ina's shoW myself, and I own 2 of her cookbooks.  I always seem to go back to her first book though.  Her baking recipes are the best.  Her lemon angel food, Old Fashioned Banana Cake and her coconut cupcakes are repeat offenders at our home.  I miss her prepackaged baking mixes.

I'm tempted, but I shouldn't because my doctor just told me I might well avoid surgery if I lose weight the right way over the next 6 or 7 months.  I'm thinking lots of the things I'd most like to make are just what I shouldn't eat.

I've had meals from her past books.  Good food!

@millieshops  One sure way to lose weight is to eat small portions throughout the day, rather than one large meal.  Peanuts are good for energy, berries are great anytime and easy to snack on, foods like this, and of course, no high fat foods, though one needs some fat, extra virgin olive oil is a good fat.

I probably have 100 cookbooks dating back to late 1800'. Out of these many cookbooks, I use probably 4 or 5 at most repeatedly.  However, I too have toned down the cooking, baking and eat cleaner and plainer.  I don't bake like I used too, as I eat it all lol. For good recipes I use over and over I return to The frugal Gourmet, Foster's Market, Gweneth paltrow's first cookbook and Ina garden's.  The recipes are creative, adaptable and just packed with flavor.  Works for me

I am a fan of Ina, right behind Julia Child. David is a foodie and Ina is a rock star in his world. I can certainly understand his excitement at having her in his kitchen. I love him for his enthusiasm and I am tickled that he got to spend time with her.

I have every cookbook that The Frugal Gourmet ever wrote. I was saddened by the demise of his career but that doesn't change the fact that, like yourself, I go back time and time again to his books for recipes. His Cuban Black bean Soup is a staple in our family. The kids and grand kids have all grown and moved on but they still request "my" Cuban Black bean Soup when they are around. I have given all of them the recipe but they all say that theirs just doesn't come out like "mine". Smiley Happy

I have made quite a few of Ina's recipes (got them directly from her show).  One is her lobster MAC and Cheese, which is to die for.  Then I made this chocolate cake that was absolutely fabulous as well.  I've tried many of Ina's recipes and was never disappointed.  She definately knows how to cook, that's for sure Smiley Happy

I don't think I've ever seen David gush so much over a guest before.  Was thinking maybe HE was a little star struck!  Smiley Very Happy  Either way, I thought it was cute.  It was even cuter when Ina was standing right next to David and she had to look wayyy up at him.  I never realized how short she is!  Lol.

The fact is you do not know the whole story.  She says she did not know and that her staff did not pass the request along.  Do you have any proof to the contrary or are you simply condemning someone based on gossip, rumor, and innuendo?

Unless you have actual proof, you are unfairly condemning someone without knowing all the facts.

Excellent point. It seems to be fine to judge somebody without knowing all the details. Ina Garten has always said she didn't know anything about the request, that her staff never said anything. If there's something else going on, or if Ina is lying, I'd like to see proof please. Every time Ina's name is mentioned on these boards, somebody always goes off on the Make-A-Wish tangent and, I might add, without knowing the facts. If you want to lambaste her, that's fine. But for just once, I'd like to see some proof that she knew and she denied the boy's request.

And yes, I probably will buy this book.
