Please be kind as I write this with tears streaming down my face.
We have had dozens of dogs in our lifetime and are currently owned by 3 rescues.
Our last Lucy is a pit mix but looks more like a greyhound. She is 57 lbs and very, very powerful.
The rescue was going to put the litter down as they were out of room. We saved her at the last minute. Honestly, they thought at 7 weeks she was not very adoptable. She was very skittish and fearful. We thought we could handle the situation.
She is now 16 months. The last 10 months have been very difficult as Lucy has become more and more aggressive.
She is fine with the family. I trust her completely.
But I no longer trust her walking on a leash or if company is over. She started by jumping and lunging but more recently growling. She has not bitten anyone up to this point but that is my fear.
I am frightened she has become a loaded hand gun.
I had taken her for 2 private training lessons with a specialist and she cut us loose. She felt the aggression was not something she could over come.
Tonight I am returning from a lesson with 2 trainers I like very much. They are willing to work with us but really did not give us much hope. Honestly she lunged and growled at the instructors constantly for the hour we were there. I was very frightened by my own dogs behavior.
It would tear me apart if Lucy ever hurt another person or animal.
I love her dearly and am crying hysterically. For the first time tonight DH and I spoke openly about needing to put her down.
Lucy belongs to DS13. He is going to be devastated.
Thanks for listening.
