I completely 'get' what the op @Sapphiregal  is saying.  I also understand the need for some rules on this board to keep on from completely going off the rails.  Overall, I also do understand not posting randomly about politics or politcal figures or having a discussion re: upcoming elections, candidates, etc. that sort of thing.  However, there are times when politics ,world events and our normal lives intersect in a way that makes it really nice to be able to talk and share information about it or our thoughts and feelings.  We may even feel compelled to because it's so overwelming.  In my opinion to not mention Ukraine, with what is happening now, almost seems disrespectful - like there is an invasion going on, people are fighting and dying and we are forbidden to post about it?  Gas prices high - we can't mention that?  Cost of living it high?  Supply chain issues?  These are things that directly concern our lives. Seems to me it should be ok to post to share our concerns, emotionally connect, discuss , disagree, if and when we do.  Obviously, we can self govern a bit and try to not be incredibly infammatory. Right? Why should we discuss it here?  Probably because whoever posts here feels like this is the familiar, comforting place.  For those who come here to escape all that - that's fine - why read the thread at all?

I agree with what you said.  However, this is the problem:

"Obviously, we can self govern a bit and try to not be incredibly infammatory. Right?"

Obviously, some of us can not.  And that's when the threads get shut down and deleted.

I just have to say - thank you - you do "get" it.

Exactly, @geezerette.

In addition, I can understand "why read the thread at all" regarding some threads, but the problem doesn't always present itself in the topic line but instead ends up inserted in just about any discussion here lately.

It's hard to escape unless we avoid the Community altogether.

I understand the concept, but wonder if you saw the threads on these recent topics that were removed.  Seeing them helped to explain the conundrum facing the moderators.

Obviously we can't repeat them, but they were almost immediately populated with openly incendiary confrontational posts.

It's not a simple fix, and a nightmare for someone trying to moderate a forum that allows some political posts but not others...  some controversial posts, but not others.

I do understand, though, that it can often be subjective.

Maybe you just need to take a little break.

For years, here at QVC, politcal and religious views were allowed and, sadly, it almost never ended up well. I don't think QVC wants us "debating" politics or religion.  It's a shopping channel!  Not just that.... but, these days, people can't seem to debate without it ending up in a fight.

While I am a woman of faith, I try to follow the Q's rules.  It is very hard to be me without talking about my faith because it is a big part of who I am. Still, rules are rules and there are other subjects that interest me here so my advice would be maybe take a little break and come back when you feel like it!

I hope you won't leave us for good.  There are some really nice people here and lots of topics. It is very hard not to see some of the things going on and not say anything so I do understand where you are coming from. I think many of us have been where you are now. Personally, I'm glad I stayed!

@Sapphiregal   I felt the same way about the one I started yesterday about the danger of retaliatory cyber attacks. This is a serious possibility that most people don't consider and is in no way po!itical.

Hi @Foxxee  I don't really understand what the legal liability could be?  Could you explain a bit more?  I mean this is not a news organization, not even pretending to be one.  we're on a chat/message board - just people sharing personal  thoughts, observations, experiences and opinions about a variety of topics.

@moonandthestars

"sharing personal  thoughts, observations, experiences and opinions"

That's the problem.  There are people who want to shut down those with differing opinions.  Some will go to any length to do it.

QVC sponsors the Forum that makes them responsible for what's said here except if it is stated somewhere they are not liable.  Some websites hosting comments do that.

Companies are not bound by the First Amendment, so they can legally establish their own rules.

Some groups use powerful organizations with lots of members and money to threaten news outlets, retailers and other companies for saying or doing something they don't like.  If these companies don't succumb to their demands, they sue and boycott regardless of whether they have a case or not.

QVC could be concerned about something like this happening, but I also think they want the Forum to be civil.

Sometimes the original posts are fine but they get hijacked by subsequent posters who don't follow board rules.
