I think it's disturbing how some posters try to get in contact with missing posters - calling hospitals, the police, having the mods contact the police to do wellness checks.

Just a 'heads up':

If I've gone missing for a length of time, it's probably because of problems with my computer or unable to access  QVC site.

Or I've thrown my laptop out of my window.

So, don't worry about me.

Nope. I'm probably traveling. And this board is not as private as some posters think.

Seems obvious you are talking about ShowMe's thread. Keep in mind this terminally ill poster writes nearly every day. She started a new chemo drug and then things fell silent. Her cyber friends worried, and the one that knew her phone number did some follow up. I live in the same neighborhood as another poster and actually helped her set up her QVC account. If someone asked about her well-being, I'd probably chime in with limited details about the matter. I guess it shows there are people who worry about others when communication stops.

I don't see how they would be able to. So, no.

But I do think that for some posters who have made strong friendships in the forum and who have very few people in their lives to check on them -- it might make sense for them to create an ongoing community Safety Circle thread of some kind. Then those who wanted to participate could, and they could help and educate each other on ways to manage their safety. Which is a real and serious concern. Isolation can be a deadly condition and it is lovely that some want to help.

No....I have family and friends who would notice if I was "out of action" for more than a day.

I don't treat these forums as a substitute for real life contacts or Facebook.

For me, it's a place to learn more about various topics and products, discuss some situations and share ideas or resolutions, enjoy funny memes and pretty pictures, get a heads up once in awhile on things that pop up in the news that I may have missed.

There are many nice posters I enjoy....but I value everyone's privacy.

Edited to say: I get very uncomfortable when some posters get too involved with a poster's personal situation.
