"If you want me again look for me under your boot soles.
You will hardly know who I am or what I mean.
But I shall be good help to you nevertheless."
~Walt Whitman

I think Walt Whitman was having a really bad day when he wrote that one. It doesn't even make sense.

OWS--I haven't always been in synch with some of your philosophy, but I never personally read anything written by you of a vile nature. I'll have to give you the benefit of the doubt there.
I didn't like the way you were treated here recently. I felt bad for you. No one deserves to be vanquished from a forum in the way many attempted to do so to you.
I think you were probably crushed, but I also think you are very resilient, so as far as I am concerned, welcome back and carry on in your own special way.

It reminds me of the mindless, pitty party stuff you see on facebook everyday. People looking for attention and someone to stroke them.

After I read my reply, I thought perhaps I should clarify that I'm not speaking of the OP here, I'm simply speaking as to what the quote is saying and how I perceive it.

Is this about stepping on chewing gum? If it is I disagree with the last sentence. It's only good help when you're chewing it.

Walt Whitman was not respected when he first started out. His work was said to be obscure and even made fun of.
The first link states his work received few favorable reviews, and Whitman himself wrote a couple of the reviews of his own work.

The words by Walt Whitman came from his book:
"Leaves of Grass."
