. . . do you use your maiden name if you are married? I have friends who do both. Some use just their married name, and some put their maiden name in the middle. It seems to me like someone from my high school or college would not find me just going by my married name.

A good friend of mine just had someone she went to elementary school with find her! They discovered they lived about 4 hours apart, so they made plans to meet halfway at a mall for lunch. I think that's so great! Smiley Happy

Given, Maiden, Married is the order most states require for legal documents..........and that is what I use for everything.

I use both my maiden and married name, specifically for the reason you mentioned.  I've been fortunate to reconnect with several old friends and classmates.  My 8th grade class had a reunion many years ago and we're going to do it again this fall.  Facebook has made it easier to find people and get announcments out faster and easier than mass emails or mailings.

I don't use my maiden name but I guess it is a very good idea since it is a way to connect  with old friends.  Thanks for the reminder.

Re: If you are on Facebook. . .

I don't do Facebook, but if I did and wanted to connect with childhood friends, that is what I would do.

I have always hated how hard it is (especially was before today's technology) to find girls from our past as they change their names most often, and then were hard to trace if you didn't know their married name.

Today I notice a lot of women do include their maiden names on Facebook.

Re: If you are on Facebook. . .

I started FB several months ago.  Since we've been married forty years, and I was a teacher, I use my married name.  Also, I was already in touch with friends from HS and college that I wanted to be.  One thing that has helped is we live in my home town.

I'm not on it yet, mainly because of teaching too! A friend had a not-so-good experience on it. But after my close friend found her old friend, and after having lots of people telling me to join, I'm thinking about it.

I also found out a close friend from my college days died 6 years ago and I didn't know. Most of my friends from both hs and college are on, including my best friend from hs. I don't live anywhere near either school. So many are on Facebook now, but I like my privacy.

It's interesting about the profile pictures too - some use a current one, some use an older one, and some use a generic scene and no pic! So I guess it comes down to how I want my hs and college friends to remember me - as I was or as I am! Smiley Wink

Re: If you are on Facebook. . .

I use my first name, maiden name, married last name. I've found tons of old friends by being on Facebook. I love it! I find it a great tool to keep in touch with friends that you otherwise wouldn't have known ever existed anymore. Woman Happy
