If an elderly person has no family left and no friends, do they still do graveside services?

I know this is an odd question and also sad. I know a man that has no family and was a loner (no friends). He is in the nursing home now and is terminal. I will be in charge of his arangements even though I am not even a family member. I am the only one that there was to take on the task. Guess how I know him? I was his landlord (3 years) and Social Services begged me to take over. He has no money, so it will be paid by the state.

So when he dies, there will only be me and DH at the funeral or graveside service if we have one and we aren't even close to him. It is also sad to have nothing for him.

His BD is today and he'll be 80.
