It's indeeed sad. While I and many many other have stayed home there are still mass crowds of people out in the streets piled together most evenings and many during the day.

It is very telling also that some stores are not going to be open on Thanksgiving this year when they have in the past. Most stores depend upon two seasons for the biggest part of their annual revenue; back-to-school and the holidays. Back-to-school is still a big unknown, so little need for uniforms, new clothes, even things like backpacks or lunchboxes if remaining at home...and Thanksgiving is usually the kickoff of holiday shopping for large stores...time will tell.

I know I am shopping less because I need less. That is probably true for many others as well. People are prioritizing and seeing that many things they had wanted aren't really necessary afterall. When I go to the grocery store, pharmacy, or gas station I am seeing fewer people.

What frustrates me no end is the fact that other countries have handled this properly and are slowly but safely recovering because they followed the science from the beginning.

I watched  a news report showing that European countries started immediately in late March to prepare for the reopening of their schools in September by allocating funds for PPE, plexiglass partitions, more classrooms to accomodate social distancing and testing, tracing to prevent another surge. Teachers were being instructed in new methods to adjust to the changes, mental health professionals were preparing specialized curricula to help the children affected negatively by the pandemic etc. etc.

We have done none of this. Schools are on their own, told to figure it out without federal resources and our children are the new guinea pigs in this mess. This is unconscionable and makes us look like a third world country. We have international friends who are stunned and confused. DH said to me, “i must have slept through it. When did this great country turn into the Beverly Hillbillys?”

MLB can't even protect its own players from Covid and we are about to have school children exposed in schools across the country, to bring it back home to their families just like they bring home ear infections and colds and "the crud" we are all familiar with. No one is coming to save us. I thought at first that of course the authorities would help with such a crucial and important disaster because, if nothing else, it would be in their interests financially to prevent people from catching a pandemic disease. I thought it would be obvious to even the most cold of them that Covid spread wide would destroy the economy and hurt their pocketbooks.

I was wrong. I feel awful I was so wrong. I told people to just hold on and that it would be okay. We have to hold on as individuals and we have to be okay emotionally. We can be strong and okay emotionally. But externally, no we are not going to be okay. Prioritize what is most important to you and hold onto it.

Thank you for stating the obvious. Why anyone feels one person should have been in control is ludicrous. While no fan, it's just a cheap shot at the blame game. Our Governors (ALL OF THEM) were given the task at hand to reopen their states incrementally as they met benchmarks set forth by the CDC.  Did they do that? No.

@magicmoodz, but yet, you are blaming the governors. Yes, the CDC originally had benchmarks, but they were not at all emphasized, rarely even mentioned.

I would so welcome a strong, cohesive, and unwavering national response based on science that governors then feel the need to follow. Mixed messages don't cut it.

After all, this is a national crisis akin to war.

OK, I'll take a minute and explain my post.

I've heard and seen many times that these huge demonstrations everywhere definitely did not...did not...help the spread of the virus.

These people come from everywhere shoulder to shoulder and then they eventually leave and go home...(wherever that is).

So, that's my reason for posting this.  I hope I've stayed on the subject matter.

Huge Disease Magnet Parties in California Spiking Covid Cases

Say what you want about their exercising their constitutionally protected rights, at least most protestors wear masks. On the other hand...In California younger Influencers have been attending huge parties with no protection. Pictures from inside the parties have gotten out. And there are rumors that some of the attendees have already tested positive. Many of the influencers have family members and staff who could be at risk from Covid. And they don't care.

"Several YouTube stars—including Larray, Nikita Dragun and others—are being criticized after they attended a rager in California, where more than 460,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19.

On July 21, beauty influencer Dragun threw Larray a birthday party at Los Angeles' famous Hype House—a mansion established by the creative content collective of the same name that serves as a hub for TikTok, YouTube and Instagram influencers to promote each other's platforms and personal brands. A number of Larray's notable social media friends, like Tana Mongeau and James Charles, were seen in videos and photos at the soiree, and while some people were captured entering and exiting the building wearing facial coverings, the scene inside was the opposite."

And the Youtuber Jake Paul hosted a giant party on July 11th. No protections there either. They took turns dangling off an excavator that was on the property. Clearly safety minded young people who should be influencing the kids who subscribe to their channels. Jake Paul has over 20 Million Youtube Subscribers. 20 million.

@Annabellethecat66   "Huge demonstrations" (and I mean huge) in my city have shown no spike in covid cases or hospitalizations over the past 6 weeks.  Our metrics remain low.  This is because most protesters it seems have been wearing masks.

Like @Porcelain said the biggest offenders and causers of spread are the maskless party-goers and maskless crowds at bars and restaurants.
