Re: If You Made A List And Stuck To It

[ Edited ]

I don't know what I need til I need it....but if I need it I order it at once, often so I can fix something. Today it was needle nose-pliers for removing velcro stuck to a windowsill. $4.95 I will never see again.....but I won't have to look at the velcro, either (it used to support a cat watching post by the window.  I don't know what happened, but it crashed and broke the other night.)

On makeup, skincare and clothes. . . I am a shopper and update for those, esp skin products, which help my allergies.  I am not reliably thrifty about sales.

Since retiring from teaching, though, I'm easier on my clothes and shoes and have not had to shop much. I have clothes from Boden (and the Q) that are twenty years old and still look OK.  I send clothes I no longer wear that are in good condition to my sister, who works two jobs and is too busy to shop--but she likes clothes.  She keeps the ones she likes and donates the others to her town's GoodWill.

If I am culling items I know my sis won't like, I bring them to my town's Goodwill.

I do love to shop, especially sales, though.  In another life I was a hunter and gatherer, I guess.

You mean I don't really "need" at least 2 dozen pairs of pants?

And at least 2 shirts for every pair?  Really!

I think I have a short sleeved, 3/4 sleeved and long sleeve top for every pair (and then some!).

When I had Covid, that was a good thing...laundry did not get done!

Re: If You Made A List And Stuck To It

I have way too much skin care, makeup and clothes. I'm going to give up shopping for Lent. Believe me, it won't be easy. My philosophy has always been "you can't take it with you" so I buy what I want when I want it.

I'll have to stay out of stores and change the channel when I see something I like on QVC. I have a feeling it's going to be a long 40 days.

Re: If You Made A List And Stuck To It

I know that no matter how much time I saved, I would not want to devote it towards housework --- blah --- nope!!!

Generally speaking, I don't make lists except for grocery lists.  I don't follow them for other things and then I get upset with myself.  Who needs that?

I wish that I could just FIND the makeup and skin care, etc. products that were just exactly what and I needed and wanted.  Then, I really believe that I would quit buying all of these different items.  I would save a lot of money -- not really a whole lot of time.

Also, I would have a lot less clutter.  That would be helpful!

As for clothing --- I have cut down on buying clothing about 80-85%, but I just can't, nor do I want, to quit entirely.  I do need to go through closets again and weed things out that either don't fit or just don't make me happy any more!

Wouldn't save much because I make shopping lists. If I see something on sale, I might add it to my cart.
